There is much talk that New Jersey might one day flip from blue to red — particularly after Rep. Jefferson Van Drew, a New Jersey Democrat, left his party in December and became a Republican. President Trump personally welcomed him to the White House.

Mr. Van Drew reports that 100,000 people are now seeking tickets to one of Mr. Trump’s signature Keep America Great rallies, to be staged in Wildwood, New Jersey, on Jan. 28 in a venue that only seats about 7,500. The last time a president visited the area was in 1891, when Benjamin Harrison came to call.

South Jersey is Trump country.

I think there's about a zero percent chance that Joisey becomes a win in the (R) column, but by all means let the (D) divert precious resources to holding it. I classify it as bluest of blue, along with MD CA OR WA MA IL CT RI.

Agree with you about South Joisey though.

This is all you need to know:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_U..._in_New_Jersey

Hillary Clinton 2,148,278 55.45%
Donald Trump 1,601,933 41.35%

And no, south Jersey isn't particularly Trump country either.

I wouldn't be surprised if many of those 100K tickets being ordered are people planning to go there to heckle him. That would be an oh-so-New Jersey-esque thing for them to do.

Travel time from Philly to Wildwood is about an hour and a half.
Travel time from NYC to Wildwood is just over 3 hours.
Travel time from Baltimore to Wildwood is also a little more than 3 hours.

3 ultra-liberal cities easily within shouting distance. Populated by people who have no compunction against speaking their minds.

He is right in the heart of enemy territory. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if he regrets making this visit.

NJ as a whole won't flip anytime soon, but NJ district 3 is competitive and can go Red or Blue in 2020. It went Blue in 2018.

It's an odd district with it half in Burlington County (leans Blue), other half in Ocean County (leans Red). Burlington is part of the Philly metropolitan area, while Ocean is the southernmost in NY, and that part is outside of reasonable commuting distance to NYC or Philly. There's not much in commonality with the counties (like similar commuting patterns).

Ocean has a lot of retirees, mostly White. Burlington is more commutable suburban area in the Philly region.

As for the Trump Rally, I'd bet many are going for the curiosity, but there are Republicans and pro Trump voters in NJ too.

If Trump wasn't President in 2018, I think voter turnout wouldn't have been so high that Menendez re-won his Senate Seat. He is corrupt and unlikeable, but won, largely because voters were coming out in better numbers for a midterm as a rebuke of Trump, and voting down the line Democrat.

You have obviously never been to a Trump rally, or watched them on the web. There's very little heckling, and when it occurs, its stamped out immediately with loud boos then even louder chants of USA USA USA. Just to get into the Rally's, you are highly encouraged to be screened. They do a great job of screening out would-be troublemakers.

I'm guessing this one will be moved to a larger venue.

The Rally's are electric, and the feeling of comraderie is extremely strong, and uplifting. The message is one of unbridled patriotism, and optimism for the future. Its a stark contrast to what the Dems are trying to sell...gloom and doom, and angry Socialists swinging their fists wildly in a self-induced rage.

If you have the chance to go to a Trump Rally, don't miss it. Bring a lot of patience though, the lines are long, and they don't move too fast due to the screening.

So far as Jersey flipping...New Jersey is experiencing a mass outbound exodus of people trying to avoid the crazy high taxes. Many who can get out, have gotten out, or are planning to get out soon. I've noticed that most of them who left, are Conservatives who just couldnt' deal with the Dem policy's of tax and spend anymore. Those who remain are okay with the Dem policy's, so the % of Dems is increasing as a whole.

I don't see it flipping in a very long time, if ever. The Dems closest to NYC are highly concentrated, and there are Millions of them, so they will stay in control. Those further from NYC are fleeing when they can. New Jersey will instead lose Delegates as the overall population falls. NJ's a dying State, but the last person standing will be a staunch Dem. I saw it all play out before when I lived in Detroit.

My wife and her family are from NJ, and I live in Florida w/ a LOT of former New Jersey residents, so I know a little about what's going on there.

So 100,000 people are wasting their time because NJ will never go red. They will also waste their time at the polls when it comes time to vote.

Jersey had a lot of people lose their tax deductions. It wasn't a lot but enough to lose seats in the last election. That's the beauty of our system, it self corrects.

LOL... That's what Hillary said about Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan.
