It isn't just the actual 'dollars' that were proposed. There are/were multiple positions that have never been filled under this administration.
It is what it is, previous administration was working on a comprehensive pandemic policy/process. This administration deemed that initiative not a priority and not only proposed budget cuts, never filled positions or continued the momentum of the program.
That's fine. Now we need 'emergency funds' to catch up. That's fine.
But instead of sitting there tellling us how they are doing the best ever in the history of the USA to deal with an issue...just make sure that the state you are dumping infected people in has the proper staff, facilities, equipment.
Seems the Trump Administration has things under control, no?
No reason we should be the world's police department or the world's doctor.
Let the countries with superior government-run medical systems control China's new bug.
From the CDC's own FY2020 Congressional Justification:
So that's the part of the CDC budget where we help other countries be better at controlling/stopping outbreaks of infectious diseases. And that budget got raised, not gutted.
Wait, an infectious disease rapid response fund specifically created last year to "prevent, prepare for, or respond to an infectious disease emergency, domestic or international" and that is Trump "gutting" the CDC?
The budget that got cut was the discretionary "spend it any way you like" Budget Authority, but every non-discretionary line item that would be directly involved with infectious disease got increased.
Others might buy the "it am teh Trumpz fault" nonsense if anyone in America gets coronavirus, but it won't be anyone who can read the CDC budget justification and understands these things called facts.

Most likely, this was the CDC who has a $12 billion budget.
This type of quarantine is a basic function of the agency, but they were not prepared at all.
The government can't be trusted with our healthcare.
What the whistleblower has shown is that government should not be controlled by a wannabe dictator who values fealty more than competence.
Trump has gutted the CDC to fund his tax breaks for himself and his cronies. He has fired all the competent people who tell the truth and hired incompetent yes-men who Trump likes because he doesnt like being told the reality.
He is endangering the lives of the American people with these reckless cuts. This silly "destroy the budgets for the federal government except the military" attitude is causing us to be less prepared and more in danger of a pandemic than most other countries. Especially considering we have no guaranteed paid vacation time either so people go to work and transmit diseases.
The Trump administration has weakened the CDC the same way they have weakened numerous other agencies. Defund and eliminate anyone they deem disloyal. I don’t see Medicare, military and VA recipients giving up their government healthcare. Trump owns any government failure to address COVID19. He golfs a third of the time and should be quite rested. I’m sure he and Pence, aka Laurel and Hardy, have this all under control.
Love the comparison. Too bad most on this forum are too young to get the reference.
The CDC has been funding needless BS projects for years. Typical Govt bloat and waste of money on politicians pet projects.
Time for them to refocus on their prime objectives and goals.
Planning and preparing for health crises is not needed? These are the things that have to be done in advance, so when something like Corona virus hits, they are ready to go into action. You can't deal with a public health crisis by hiring people and trying to train them AFTER the crisis hits.
Their prime objectives ARE to be prepared ahead of time. Plus research so they can get a handle on what kind of disease they are dealing with. All this needs to be done on a regular ongoing basis.

You don't seem to understand that a virus like this is a world wide problem. It doesn't care what country you live in. Everybody needs to pitch in.
