Flu has been around for around 2000 years. COVID-19 is brand new, which is the only reason numbers are still lower than the flu.
But it's shown to be far more deadly in terms of mortality rate and much more contagious.
Without serious intervention, numbers could quickly reach flu's toll.
One random moron in China snacking on a raw wild exotic animal a few months ago led to over 120,000 infections in 80+ countries (and counting) all over the planet. That should seem completely absurd and impossible, but that's the reality we're dealing with.

I haven't read the term Italian Virus anywhere, yet. Not even on state-run Chinese news sites.
It doesn't make sense, either, because everyone including the Chinese knows that the virus originated in Wuhan, and clearly before it showed up in Europe.
