How it must pain them that opinion polls show massive support for the very difficult job that he and his party are doing in very trying circumstances.

Haters gotta hate.

I think pretty much everyone in the last 10 000 years have "called" the possibility of an outbreak. It is a naturally occurring (and recurring) thing after all.

We were just too busy shopping and watching Dancing with the Stars.

The Bush administration left their research and to do list with the Obama administration, who left it with the Trump transition team. The Trump team did not see the need, so they tossed it and the people who work the to do list.
So actually Bushes plan never really took flight. There was no annual budget commitment and as time passed through Bush's administration The 600 million budget for influenza pandemic seemed to fizzle out into Obama's administration with any new funding or implementation being abandoned and forgotten.
Seems pandemic preparedness lost steam throughout three administrations.

Of course they will only apply it to Trump, or whomever their Opposition is in the White house, after all they were fine with a Leftist peace prize winner destroying soverign countries like Libya and Syria, having the IRS investigate Democrat opponents, and never saying a word about it. Like Hugo Chavez in Venezuela, they view their side beyond reproach.

True that.

Lots of planning. No implementation. Couple that with magic thinking, it'll never happen, and this is where we end up.

But implementation also requires planning and cooperation by both teams. That means nothing will ever happen. If it does, we will never got the whole story.

Each side will vilify the other. Or as the usual case, one side will yell crooked cheaters and the other will bury their heads in the sand.

Maybe it has something to do with the SARS Cov scare in 2003 under his administration? It was on our soil and hit Toronto pretty hard. Singapore learned from that encounter and was way better prepared to handle Covid than we were today.

Under the Obama administration the pandemic office was created after the Ebola epidemic. We lost a lot of top notch global health experts after it was disbanded in 2018. One was Timothy Ziemer who served under Obama and Bush.

Obama created the pandemic office in 2016 after he received criticism for the way he handled the Ebola epidemic in 2014-2015 when it reached our soil and infected a nurse in 2014. Hence Ron Klain became the Ebola Czar. After the outbreak, which pales in comparison to what we are dealing with today, Klain suggested a permanent pandemic office to coordinate with the National Security Council and across the government for a pandemic preparedness. Good idea?

Trump disbanding the pandemic office with nothing in place to coordinate a rapid response, combined with firing boots on the ground in China in the CDC which were eyes and ears and the epidemiologists we lost, ignoring the Intel and choosing to lie about the dangers? It was all a perfect storm to ignite a pandemic with this insidious highly contagious virus.

George Bush? A very stable genius in comparison.

Obama warned about the possibility of a pandemic in 2014 and the need for the country to be prepared.

Hear what Barack Obama said in 2014 about pandemics

You really think Obama is going to know less than Dubya?? The guy actually got into Ivy League without a rich Daddy connection.

regarding trumps travel ban, that they now concede was a good idea, was at first considered xenophobic, racist, unnecessary, etc. when trump pushed medications that had proved effective and SAFE when used against SARS and MERS, both covid viruses, and medications that have been around since 1955 with a PROVEN safety record, trump was considered to be pushing bad medications that were dangerous and unproven, and ineffective. well guess what people, like it or not TRUMP WAS RIGHT AGAIN!!!

when trump ordered the hospital ships to new york and california, the media said it would take weeks if not months for them to get into place, and that trumps timeline was pure fantasy. well the ships were in position a week AHEAD of schedule. remember we are talking about sending in the navy whose motto in situations like that is "the difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes only a little longer" GO NAVY!!

so bleat on about hating trump all you want, but at least look at the reality of the situation and the reality of trumps response to that situation, including the effectiveness of that response, and be truthful. dont let your hate of the man blind you.

LOL. You know who'd know if Trump is doing a good job? How about a state governor?

You can read about what J.B. Pritzker had to say about Trump here:

You're the one who needs to take your blinders off and learn what's really happening on the ground.

Regarding the travel ban, liberals mostly approved of it. Many wanted it even earlier. You guys on the right were making fun about how liberals are now for blocking immigrants, remember? You guys can't just change the facts to whatever suits your argument.

Before creating the pandemic office or (Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense as part of the NSC) Obama closed the White House Health and Security Office in 2009. It was after H1N1 and ebola.
And Ziemer left his position after Bolton became national security adviser.

Trump did not disband the pandemic office. Bolton, According to Tim Morrison, who was serving as senior director for counterproliferation and biodefense on the National Security Council, consolidation and streamlined offices.
