Is this current climate permanent or does this die down eventually? Right now we have a toxic environment poisoned by bullies who shout down anyone who is not 100% in lock step with the woke crowd. Any attempt to point out facts or statistics that are inconvenient are met with vitrol and calls to be marginalized.

Freedom of speech is dying in this country, and I'm not talking about freedom to be an a-hole racist. I'm talking about freedom to view things and express yourself in a way that is not 100% exactly in line with the mob holding the biggest stick.

Very disconcerting to say the least

Freedom of Speech refers to the government.

Which indeed is under attack with police going after press at protests who have an explicit right to be there.

Every day of my life I have had to watch what I say to avoid getting punched in the face. I'm ok with that since in my head, no group or individual is off limits for rude jokes or well deserved criticism.

To me, the problem isn't that I have to watch what I say, it's that far too many people are now emboldened to run their mouths and need to be punched in the face.

Are you so sure it's only the government?

Universities are having protests when non-left wing speakers are invited to discuss viewpoints, and the speaker appearances are cancelled

So called "class A" news organizations like the NY Times rarely have opposing viewpoints but when they do have a person like Tom Cotton post an op-ed, you have a purging of the editorial board after the paper is bullied by all the readers and its own staff

It's not ok to counter the opposing viewpoint, it has to be eliminated and purged

If you agree with them then you will be ok.
If you just keep quiet you will be ok.

If you disagree in any way you become the enemy.

The concept of freedom of speech needs to be a value held by CITIZENS in addition to THE GOVERNMENT in order for there to be robust public debate.

If a citizenry is NOT committed to the concept of free speech for all, and believes in the heckler's veto, or that unpopular opinions need to result in censure, then you are totalitarian minded.

Go to a Trump rally and hold up an anti-Trump sign, and see what that gets you.

So, you don't respect the free speech of the hecklers?
