The cop could have let the guy go home as they knew he lived in the area. Had his car impounded and cited him.
Instead they wanted to lock him up. As an old white guy who was given a brake like that a long time ago, I understand why the anger is going on.
They had his ID, they had his car, after 40 min. of the testing they knew his record. Yet they killed him. The cops broke their own force's rules and put other people in danger.
Absolutely could have.
There are human interest stories in the news all the time that report exactly that.

Rayshard Brooks was no angel. He was on probation for 4 crimes including cruelty to children and faced going back to prison if charged with a DUI. He blew a 0.108 and resisted when police tried to cuff him. This is the man who was drunk and passed out in the Wendy's drive thru.

Oh, and I KNEW there was a reason he was resisting arrest so VIOLENTLY. He’s a criminal, with a criminal past, who didn’t want to go to prison. Probably the reason 99% of those being arrested VIOLENTLY resist arrest.
You guys don't seem to get it- shooting a fleeing suspect in a crowded fast food parking lot IN THE BACK is going to buy you a murder charge and a heap of other charges.. This incident proves to me the officers clearly didn't know what they were doing and should have never been hired. How long did they have him peaceably before it turned into a shartstorm? Hmmm?

I guess it is somewhat poetic justice that all the anarchy is occurring in liberal areas. Additionally, you don't see police forces quitting in conservative areas.

HE WAS TURNING AN ATTEMPTING TO TASE THE COP FOR GOD'S SAKE!
No doubt the cop would have just let him flee if that was his sole intention. However, the street thug sought to not just flee, but turn and attack the cop.

The libs say they do not really feel that blacks should be immune from apprehension and prosecution, yet continually make statements like those above. Of course, they are advocating that nothing should have been done and the criminal should have been allowed to tase the cop!
Well...…………………………… there were others around. So after the hood tases the cop and gets his gun, what else was he going to do? He was drunk/high as well. Perhaps he would have used the gun on the cops and others in the surrounding area. The cops cannot allow some lunatic to go around tasing people with a deadly weapon and doing whatever the hell he wants. They are ENFORCING THE LAW.
Brooks was on probation. He wasn’t going to go home that night no matter which police department and what color officer stopped him. There is no “discretion” when an officer is dealing with someone already teetering on the brink of going back to jail for priors. The posts saying they should have let him go are just so staggeringly ... naive. He was a repeat violent offender who violently battered two police officers, stole a taser, and fired it at one of the officers. He lived & died by the sword. In his culture’s parlance he “kept it real” til his very end.
He was shot in the back while he was running away. Those are the only facts that matter. End of story. No one, ever, would have complained about that cat going to jail. But not murdered, we don't allow our cops to do that in our free, non-police state country. Much as you racist GOPers liked it while they got away with it. Those days are through.
