The last thing the world needs is more holidays.

Every time we have a holiday, especially on a business day, it throws off my entire week.

I am supportive of a Juneteenth holiday. It has real meaning in celebration of a real historical event. It means something to black Americans. It can mean something to us white Americans once we learn about it. It is an absolute reasonable request unlike some of the crazy leftist demands lime reparations or defunding the police.

I have some questions though of black posters. Can you live with it being a true celebration though? Fireworks, cookouts and black cultural events? I can envision something that is a cross between 4th of July and Cinco De Mayo. Can you handle that? Non black Americans will likely embrace that.....can you? Can you handle white people indulging in your culture without taking offense?

What we don’t want is another holiday celebrating the liberal view of race in America where white people are evil and blacks people are victims. We don’t need a summer version of MLK day. We don’t need reflection, a day of service or anything like that. What the country needs is another reason to celebrate unity and freedom. Your Juneteenth holiday can do that.

Can you live with a celebration? Can you allow other races to embrace aspects of your culture without the cries of cultural appropriation? Do you really want a NATIONAL holiday for all of us to celebrate the freedom of slaves or do you still want a private party that activists control. If most black people could say yes to this it could go a long way toward healing this countries race troubles.
Don’t need your approval! You not Massa letting us have a day that you approve.

Excerpt: Can you live with it being a true celebration though?

Response:
Why not? Martin Luther King Jr. Day is his birthday and became a Federal Holiday in 1983. Some businesses tried
removing one of the other 9 Federal Holidays ( all about the money ) but workers protested. Add Juneteenth and it
will be 11 Federal Holidays.

Add the day but don't touch any other Federal Holiday....

Since we've combined celebrating/remembering ALL the presidents on President's Day, can we also combine ALL the civil rights leaders (including MLK) and activists into Civil Rights Day? This would encompass ALL civil rights regardless of color.

I had never heard of this before this year.

I’m hardly a racist but I think just that fact illustrates how sometimes the history and struggles of black people are often almost invisible to white people.

I do think such a holiday commemorating the end of slavery and by extension racism is a good thing.

Good points. I too think that marking the end of slavery - which has been called America's original sin and caused so, so much national misery lasting to this day - would be one of the best things ever to commemorate. It certainly is better than President's Day.

My company nixed MLK day and decided to just give everyone a free random. Not a peep.

Now there is a push of doing the same with Washington Day and Columbus Day which I'm in favor of along with many others. How about a holiday that falls on hunting season? What am I going to do being off in dead winter February?
