Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, etc all have similar numbers to us. Are they all having election years? I think it has more to do with people valuing freedom and weighing the negative costs of the lockdowns.
With that said I think masks are important and people like Trump and Joe Rogan should have been supporting mask wearing.
Canada does not have similar numbers. That is why it is on the list of countries permitted to visit the EU this summer, and the US is not.
Canada has had 8,522 deaths. The US has had 128,395. So to be close to Canada with your population being 9 times that of Canada your death numbers would be 76, 698, which makes your death number 40 percent higher than Canada. That's significant. You are also having increases in hospitalization, much greater than Canada.
Currently in BC we have 5 people with Covid-19 in ICU.
I didn't include number of cases because that number really does depend on testing, and testing methods differ, even though that number would show that Canada has much fewer cases per million.
Canada got it's first covid case around the time the US did. Mistakes were made, but overall the response was quick and organized, with NO politicking involved. Leaders from all five parties gave the same co-ordinated response which was listen to the health professionals.

We envy your coordinated response and sense of civic duty south of the border here. Congrats on the very low number of hospitalized cases!
The hospital case I mentioned are only for BC, not all of Canada.
Quebec and Ontario the story is much different, they are our hotspots.
Canada's performance in relation to the world as a whole could probably have been much better in hindsight.
Now with summer here, our concerns about social distancing not being followed enough are a cause for concern.
However things are opening up, and so far so good.
The story isn't over yet. There will be plenty of time for analysis once this horrible pandemic is over.
Indeed. It baffled me that the governors of Florida and Texas were so obstinate and refused to listen to their experts. Really sad state of affairs in those southern states.
