I'm not an antivaxer here, this is just the way it works.
That is very much not the way it works.

It’s truly disheartening to realize the degree to which anti-science sentiments and scientific illiteracy pervade the Trump base.

Really? 60 MILLION Americans got the H1N1 virus under Obama's "leadership". We were incredibly fortunate that bug was not as dangerous as the Chinavirus, given that 30 times more people had it.

I don't think any president could have stopped it. But Obama sure wouldn't have denied its virulence and fought against his own experts for so long, denying that it was a problem.
Agreed, no one could have 'stopped' it. But no other president in our nation's history would have denied we actually had a crises to confront. A bold "we shall fight them on the beaches ... we shall never surrender" type of speech would have endeared him to us. All we got from Trump was BS.

Obama handled the threat of Ebola very well, even sending US military medical personnel to west Africa to help deal with the outbreaks closer to the source (very well done), and if he had to deal with this one he would have been upfront about the dangers as always. The previous administration did, after all, have a process in place covering all of the steps necessary to confront a spreading pandemic. It didn't begin with the Obama administration but they did continue to work on it and improve it. Trump did none of that, and what Trump did eventually do he did poorly, and he lied about the dangers and the risks.

Trump said "what a fantastic job we've been doing". Fantastic indeed. He claimed there were only 15 ill when there were nearly 100, so a 600% exaggeration right there, and we were just getting started.

Now we have 130,000 dead in five months, a great national tragedy, and what does Trump say now?

Some people posting here clearly still believe Trump's original lies, and don't realize Trump himself has given up the fight, he has surrendered.

The better question... is that type of stupidity good enough reason for the rest of the nation to follow in that same stupidity?

POTUS should be held to a higher standard....

Is the failures of the previous president a justification for the failures of the current? Doesn't the buck stop at the presidents desk?

He didn’t need to, and still doesn’t need to, make the virus vanish. He just needed to, and needs to, act like a responsible adult, let alone a leader. But he’s treating the pandemic like an obstacle to his reelection rather than a problem that affects us all. So no, you don’t get to play the “if X were in Trump’s position” game. It’s stupid and doesn’t excuse Trump’s failures.

Trump is the sitting president and he failed.

125K plus dead with infections now rapidly rising and no vaccine in sight putting all of our public health at risk by not wearing masks when you cannot socially distance...

Truly, this is the capstone on Trump’s monumental edifice of incompetence.
Well, like it or not, a lot of Trump supporters are still going to vote for him no matter how much worse the virus gets, assuming the virus doesn't kill them.
