It's gonna be either herd immunity or wait for a vaccine. There's no chance in hell of containing it now no matter how many things they close down.
All a vaccine does is give people exposure to the virus in a way that triggers the person's immunity system. Ultimately, a vaccine is just another way towards achieving herd immunity.

Also, there is a difference between living with the problem in a responsible manner or letting it get out of control to the point where hospitals are overflowing and unnecessary deaths are occurring.
