Why not go after the inspector who overestimated the damages?

Just another case of Uncle Sam wanting to show who's in charge! (in part..)

I would just claim Chapter 13 (or is 7, ..speaking of the one without the payback plan..) bankruptcy and continue to live in my house, corporate America does not care whether or not you claimed bankruptcy as long as the check is in the mail, heck, in all reality, you're just a gloried renter anyways...

The state should pay. Federal funds can only go to restore the house to the state it was in pre-katrina and no more. The state as know this but seem to be ignoring federal law. That is one of the problems;many of the hiomes were substandard even to local codes before the storm.

Chapter 7 has been abolished. The banks rule and they wrote and pushed this into law. Everything has to be paid back now. Besides, you were never able to wite off a govt debt for chapter 7 or 13.

Maybe instead of making homeowner's pay they should go after the people who made fraudulent claims of being displaced by Katrina and received one of those $2,000 debit cards. This is a disgrace.

What's with the "victim" title anyway...one can be a victim of a robbery, not so much with a natural disaster. I guess since they stopped using "refugee" they needed a new title for these people...I'm sure that it will soon enough be "Hurricane Katrina Survivor" to show their strength...

Very unfortunate set of circumstances...

MamaBee, one certainly can be a "victim" of a natural disaster.

"I was the victim of a robbery" vs. "I was a victim of the terrible storm last weekend"

I think I'll start calling myself a victim of the NJ government, and when I finally move I'll call myself a survivor.

This...this is the reason I try to stay out of these Katrina threads. Usually, someone who knows nothing about it has to have an opinion. I don't know for a fact that you don't know anything about it, but it certainly sounds that way.
