In Chicago, Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot has responded to the pandemic and the anti-police violence protests with substantial increases in the numbers of police on the streets and more aggressive policies, while rejecting calls to “defund” police and divert a portion of the $1.8 billion dollars allotted to the Chicago Police Department in 2020 to increase funding for social services.
Now, Mayor Lightfoot is criticizing the press for reporting statements made by recently appointed Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown. On June 29, Brown announced that preemptive arrests of youth would be made ahead of the July Fourth holiday weekend.
Brown told reporters that the Chicago Police Department would round up teenagers who are hanging around what he called “drug corners.” To carry out the arrests, the city announced that an additional 1,200 officers would be deployed to the poorest sections of the city on Chicago’s south and west sides
It really is sad and unfortunate but what can anyone do?
Keep a daily tally of shootings that doesn't help in any way?
Hope people grow up and move on to a better way of life?
Let police serve and protect people that want to be served and protected. Let the bodies rot in the streets until the mayor and her minions can investigate the scene and then the families can go scoop up the bodies of their loved ones. Cops, detectives, crime scene investigators, ambulance drivers, emt's, nurses and doctors can all focus on people that really need/want help.

I guess all the Alderperson's complaining about her are lying.
She could triple the amount of cops on the street - as long as she continues telling them to be passive, nothing is going to change.
I say send in the army. Suspension of civil rights, martial law. Tell the populace that if they have an illegal weapon to put it out in the street. Search everybody, every orifice. Kick down doors, tear up property, dig holes in lawns if you have to in order to find the guns. Anybody that talks back gets a club upside the head and the next time they talk back a trip to a camp. If you find someone with a gun illegally shoot them on television.
There are nearly 3 million people living in the city. It has been estimated there may be 150,000 gang members or people affiliated with gangs, about half of whom are black. We are talking in some cases about 7 year olds on bikes who serve as lookouts for their father, brothers, uncles etc.
80% of the shootings happen on 8% of the blocks which are located in black communities. Hispanic, white and Asian gangs rarely engage in the sort of violence that occurs in some ( not all) black communities.
Chicago used to employ violence interrupters, so called former gang members. They tend to get shot/ killed or serve as character witnesses for the rare shooter who is caught and charged.
Your strategy might put a temporary dent in the gun violence. Too bad we have a Constitution, eh.
56 rounds and 17 people shot at that funeral and she's calling the Chicago Police Union Chief 'unhinged'.
She ALWAYS blames others. it is NEVER her doing.
