Remember back to the election results in Novemebr, 2006. Euphoria reigned: The Democrats won! The Democrats won! The people have sent a message to Bush!
Excitement exploded in the Blue States, democrats gushed with joy, those who opposed the policies of George Bush beamed with pleasure.
So what have the Democrats accomplished since then? Other than helping Alberto Gonzales get his pink slip, not much. Every now and then rumors circulate that the Democratic Congress will start investigations, order subpoenas, and all that good stuff.
I voted for the Democrats. After about 17 months of Democrats as the majority I'm still waiting for something of substance. How about you?
They are too busy getting theirs to bother with representing the people of this country. Far too many politians want to serve themselves, not their country. And that criticism goes for both sides of the aisle.
We need a legitimate third party to shake things up in Washington, otherwise politicians will continue to look at being elected as winning the lottery, not as an opportunity to better our country and citizens.
They are biding their time till Bush is gone. Not much they can do except hold down the fort and try and hold the line against George Bush. Really, you need a supermajority to get anything done in Congress. I don't blame the Democrats at all. It is disappointing but sometimes progress goes in baby steps and you and I don't see it happening, but it happens. At least Bush no longer has a couple hundred yes-men.
They both, actually are terrible, seriously.
I would think I've died and gone to heaven if we could get away from taking one party side or the other. They both seem to be incapable of anything.
I have yet to see a bill in support of invading Iran. Besides, this administration would do it without asking Congress anyway.
I have seen quite a few post offices renamed, so there's progress. I'm glad to see the Legislature (republicans and democrats) taking on important issues like the future of social security and out of control spending/deficits.
Lewis Black comedically, and correctly, said "The Democrats are the party of no ideas, the Republicans are the party of bad ideas".
How big is the Senate majority? Oh yeah, two seats. The House majority is small as well. The president has the veto, and his Republican minority has staunchly supported him so there's no way for the Democrats to pass legislation in opposition to Bush. I'm a bit surprised that the Repubs in Congress are so strongly supporting Bush despite his historic unpopularity. It's good for Bush but bad for the GOP. They didn't learn from 2006. Perhaps this year they'll realize that supporting bad policy ultimately is bad politics. I predict 5-7 seat pick up in the Senate and 30-50 in the House for the Dems.
