You'd think a professor of college level intelligence would understand the cultural significance of this particular part of his lecture and tactfully present it in a different way instead of opening a can of worms, like a dumbass, by saying it repeatedly and pausing his Zoom recording, etc etc.

You're kidding, right? He was giving examples of verbal tics and explaining that people in other countries don't say, 'uh' and 'um', giving the Chinese examples of "‘nèi ge, nèi ge, nèi ge.’”
I'm guessing the pronunciation of those (they likely have different pronunciations) sound little like the N word - but they were looking to be offended as so many people do.
Using your argument, no professor should ever reference the Niger river or Nigeria because....close enough.

Saying it once is enough. Saying it five times is either intentionally instigating or him being stupid enough not to understand the repercussions. Pausing the video is further evidence that the professor knew exactly where doing so would lead.
Both the students are in the wrong for being ******* and the professor in the wrong for being a dumbass.

Repetition is important for hearing new words and how to pronounce and remember it. It sounds similar, but is clearly different.
Are these future international business students going to be offended by Chinese speakers?
Some websites make it seem like it can be used repeatedly as a filler word the same way some English speaking people hold unto the word um and make it last seconds.

By acting like this they are not doing themselves any favors. Employers are not going to want to hire them.
