Random aside: If you find yourself in London, go check out the Cabinet War Rooms. The original maps of the Atlantic where the convoys were plotted, the original rifle racks - if security was breached, the cabinet members planned on taking up the fight themselves - even the original "private bathroom for the PM" that was actually where the encrypted phone line to the US was terminated.

I agree, and Churchill's speeches were all about the grave threat the country faced and how the country musy fight on to the end.
The Cabinet War Rooms are really interesting, and I am quite sure Cjuchill would have picked up a rifle himself if necessary.
