Apparently, Trump downplaying the Corona virus is somehow an example of Churchillian leadership.
Never mind that Churchill never spoke from rooftops during the Blitz. And that he certainly never told the British that everyone's going to be safe. The man who spoke of "blood, sweat, tears and toil" didn't downplay the risk to keep people from going into a panic.
Churchill spoke like an adult would address an adult audience.
FTR, I am not calling out Trump for not being as oratorically gifted as Churchill. That bar is set way too high for most. But he could at least get his facts straight, if he's going to compare himself to a statesman like that.
40000 innocent people in London were murdered By the democratic socialist party Via bombs
Somehow they felt justified in killing and burning that many shopkeepers And office workers
The main reason they felt that the treaty of Versailles was unfair and harsh
Of course none of the people they burned and killed had ever been to Versailles
Does any of this sound like Portland?

Not bad, but I feel I should point out that this is the political forum.
The beat poetry forum is two doors down, on the left. Follow the sound of the bongos.

Churchill often used to climb to the top of the Treasury building for an eagle-eyed view of London during the bombing.
Which was a rather foolhardy thing to do.
I couldn't see many leaders doing these these days.
Then again Churchill was from a military family and had shown a lot of the same qualities whilst serving in the Cavalry, he was even captured and was a PoW during the Boer War but managed to escape.

He's insane. Trouble is, Biden doesn't seem to have all his faculties as well. What the hell are we to do? i figure Biden can place some good people around him (Cabinet) --but he's going to gaffe his way through his four years. Guess I'll opt for that than continue to listen to Trump's lies.
Churchill was a real war leader, having served in the British army and seen action. I suspect he wasn't that unnerved by some bombs going off in the area.

That he did, but he sure as heck didn't make speeches from there. And it certainly wasn't mentioned. No one in government downplayed the risk, argued that black-out curtains were an illegal imposition and that being ordered into bomb shelters was a tyrannical attempt at controlling the populace.
Random aside: If you find yourself in London, go check out the Cabinet War Rooms. The original maps of the Atlantic where the convoys were plotted, the original rifle racks - if security was breached, the cabinet members planned on taking up the fight themselves - even the original "private bathroom for the PM" that was actually where the encrypted phone line to the US was terminated.
Comparing himself to Churchill is one of the most laughable things Trump has said in his 4-5 yrs on the Presidential stage.....
We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender....Churchill
WE SHALL NEVER SURRENDER! -does that sound like he downplayed the upcoming war?
