I say good because it would be easy for someone to get the name and then go to that officers house and do something stupid. With just a number being displayed it would require a bit more work to find out where the officer lives.

I think it is about time someone is doing something to protect our Police from the misguided idiots.

It's just common sense. Someone filing a legitimate complaint can get a badge number and go down to file an official complaint. Terrorists and mobs get someone's name in order to target someone and their family just for doing their job. They want a name so they can find their home address, family members, phone numbers, etc.

I'm sure there's people against protecting police officers or their families. It'll be these same people, much like the Minneapolis City Council, that will wonder why nobody wants to join the police force and why violent crime is out of control.

I'm not sure how their is any less accountability. Police officers can still be held accountable for their actions even when their name is not printed on their uniform. It just puts a small barrier up to violent mobs terrorizing an officer or their family.

So it means that as a society the US is getting close to having police being in mask, not to protect from viruses but to protect them and their families when off duty from attack by rebel groups

Why do you need a name if you have the badge number? We all know why.

While I would normally be against such, the left has shown that such a move is necessary to increase officer safety.

Great news...! This way the bad cops are still accountable, but all police are protected from possible dangerous harassment given today's climate....
