The tax cuts will change...the Republicans made sure that, unlike those permanent cuts primarily benefitting the wealthy, the tax cuts benefitting average American were only temporary. A temporary bone tossed in the general direction of the average American to get him or her to support the permanent cuts for the elite clas.

Caution here of course, Hillary Clinton also lead by +7.1 on RCP on October 18th, 3 weeks before the election and manage to screw it up, so Trump could still definitely win, but the flip side to this is Biden could win by a landslide (8+ points, 350+ Electoral Votes), both scenarios are still possible.

But if the latter scenario did play out and Trump did lose in a huge landslide, what would be the repercussions be for Trumpism/Nationalism/Populism? Could it still have a future in the US?

The argument was if Trump lost narrowly (less than 5 points) somebody with more political acumen and discipline could take it up repackage it into a more electable form in 2024 etc.

But if Trump loses lopsidedly, does that effectively end that wing of the party? Or at least badly damage it to the point where they'll find it difficult to nominate a candidate with likeminded views in 2024?

No, we will get another version of the Tea Party. What happened to those guys anyway?

You mean those guys with all those "potentially" ultra-violent protests we kept hearing about? lol.

They eloped with the anti-war folks, never to be seen (or at least reported on) again.

Biden still leading +7.9 on RCP, down from +10.3 ten days ago. But its still a landslide. Electorally Biden is projected to win over 300+ votes as things stand.

Nationalism finished? Not at all! Think of it this way. The left has their definition of "being woke" and sure that has to do with issues surrounding racism and equality. But the right also has "become woke" and it this is an entirely different definition. Being woke as a conservative means understanding that there are certain factions that want to tear down borders, push socialism, one currency, global resets, one religion, one military etc.

Sadly, this is happening at a seemingly increased pace every day. Luckily the right doesn't have the same "beehive mentality" as the left does. This allows us to raise our heads, look around and engage in some critical thinking. Simply put, we are much less likely to be guilt ridden followers.

George Carlin said it best: “Governments don't want a population capable of critical thinking, they want obedient workers, people just smart enough to run the machines and just dumb enough to passively accept their situation.”

It's a great quote and even more applicable today then when Carlin said it all those years ago. Even if we lose the election, we are not going to all of a sudden hit the SNOOZE BUTTON! We are awake and this will continue forever.

But at the end of the day, it's nice to know somebody is watching out for the well being of our country instead of acting like a bunch of sheep and letting the powerful forces lead us to globalist, socialistic one world economy.

Won't happen on our watch!

If Trump loses in a landslide - Is nationalism/populism finished in the US for good?

Stupid question from me...

Why is Trump's support called populism, when the left continually reminds us that HRC won the popular vote?

I certainly hope so. Like the OP said, I'm torn as to where the GOP will go from here, post-Trump.

Moderate republicans and normal thinking conservatives were drowned out and overrun by the "confederate flags on their pick-up trucks," "cheer when Trump says Hispanics are rapists & murderers" type of people.

The "radical right" Trump supporters hijacked the party and dragged the GOP to the extreme fringes of republicanism.

After Trump loses in two weeks, I would really like to see the republican party attempt to come back towards the center and show sings of normalcy. Reclaim the GOP from the fringe, radical right Trump type republicans that have taken over since 2016.
