There's a (now former) Congressman from Virginia who wrote a book about people who search for Bigfoot. He wanted to know what was the mindset of people who believe in the existence of Bigfoot, but the book is really about the vulnerability of Americans to believe hogwash theories.
Today we have a President for whom lying comes as naturally as breathing. Many of his lies are so easily debunked it is hard to believe anyone takes him seriously. Yet he calls the media the enemy of the people. Most republicans, even otherwise intelligent and thoughtful people, just nod their heads and go along with it.
We have a shadowy group called QAnon spreading stories that are so outrageous they belong in the bookstore under Science Fiction. Yet apparently millions of Americans actually believe this crap.
Despite numerous polls showing Biden leading, many people on this forum claimed a Trump landslide was coming. Of this they were 100% certain. Now, despite a complete lack of verifiable evidence, these same people believe that the election was the result of massive fraud. Many of them are 100% certain that Biden will not take office.
We have 250,000 Americans who have died over a 9 month period, far more than any pandemic since 1918, yet many insist that the whole thing is a hoax, put on for the purpose of controlling the citizenry....to what end? Instituting socialism? Taking away guns? Establishing a one-world government? Take your pick.
I am just incredulous at what is happening today. It is like half the country has lost it's collective mind. Is there any way to get back to sanity?

Covid results have been manipulated and I don't believe for a second it is as dangerous as they have made it out to be. I do believe in personal responsibility, wear a mask if you want, but no mandates please!

So you strongly believe highly discredited web sources such as InfoWars, in which the owner, Alex Jones, said that the new mRNA vaccines against COVID-19 will modify your DNA and turn you into a GMO creature?
As for how really very serious COVID-19 is I only need to quote what the CEO of my local hospital said concerning that:
“In our worst year of the flu, we had 48 flu admissions and three flu deaths. In 2020, we’ve seen over 160 covid admissions and nine deaths.” Denise Webber, President and CEO of Stillwater Medical Center. As of Monday morning, the covid unit of that hospital is full with one new covid patient in the emergency room waiting for a bed.
Incorrect Kamala Harris is a full blown Marxist. She is for equality of outcome. BLM is a Marxist organization. The democrat party and Kamala Harris have a relationship with the BLM organization. Supporting Trump's attempt in continuing to get back in the Whitehouse could not be more patriotic. There is no room for Marxism or Socialism in this country. People that want a socialist or Marxist government can go live in another country, they will not get it here, period.
Still, I'm not afraid of Harris. If Democrats go overboard, they can be voted out in 2022 and their president gotten rid of in 2024, just like what happened to Trump. Anyway, it seems Trump turned out to be pretty damned bad, since over 80 million voters thought Biden/Harris were okay as a way to vote against Trump.
They both have kids and duties outside the home. To them time is precious and they never have enough. A hour to themselves is a luxury they see a few times a week.
It seems to me most people have lives like this. Who has time to put in the effort to become an informed citizen?

These are the talk show equivalents of professional wrestling. Everyone knows it's fake, but some people manage to suspend disbelief and tell themselves its real.
Problem is, there is no harm in believing professional wrestling is real, but there is actual harm when voters believe right-wing conspiracy theories.
