Besides Jimmy Carter. Not the best President, but the man is a living saint.

1. Herbert Hoover.
2. Jimmy Carter.
3. John Q. Adams

Not really any other candidates.

Clinton by far. Jimmy Carter was a bad President but he redeemed himself afterwards. Bush failed with his war.

The 90s seem like a halcyon period compared to now. And Clinton presided over it. Too bad he couldn't keep his p**er in his pants, though.

Best by what measure?

I like a President that after he leaves office, makes himself invisible. Seldom seen and never heard. They had their time in office now its time to step away and not interfere.

GWB, not a great president, but he absolutely did his best not to interfere with Obama.

George Bush Sr. Actually made himself available as a resource to Bill Clinton while staying out of the lime light.

Obama? Not a terrible President, nor was he a great President. Average at best. He can't let go and do his own thing. Terrible Ex- President.

This is a great question, but maybe better for the History forum. The answers so far give the impression that many people here don't know much about history.

Many modern-day presidents mostly just laze around. (Reagan?)

I'm thinking maybe John Quincy Adams.

Couldn’t rep you again. Pretty much what I was going to say.

Clinton even stayed almost completely out of Hillary’s campaign.

Politically, Nixon and Johnson.
Both moved the ball forward without too much damage to the Nation.

Yeah Bill stayed out of things as much as he could. To be fair he was dragged back in after 911. Even then he tried not to interfere. If I am not mistaken he made himself available to GWB.

As soon as I saw your subject line I thought "Jimmy Carter". The most moral and honorable living former president. Still active, still doing good things for others.
