It isn't requiring voter ID, it's the restrictions put on how folks get that voter ID.
And before you all go silly/.....meaning -- many of the older rural communities, folks have problem with ID. They don't have a passport, may have a driver's license, mayabe a birth certificate. But they don't have enough to tick all the boxes for the 'voter id'.
Historically, those restrictions have impacted communities that are poor minorities who are clearly Americans so don't make this about the illegal situation.
AND historically the Republican run communities that implement these restrictions, do not provide any assistance or guidance to assist folks with issues acquiring that ID.
I'm all for a consistent voter ID policy and think that there should be processes in place to assist each and every voter on the voter list to get this ID and validate their identity.

Any assistance for the people to buy a gun????
Both are fundamental rights. Why are they treated differently?
It's suppression because many poor people do not have the means to pay for an ID, or to stand in line for hours at the BMV to get an ID.
It's more complicated than that. Many people show up at the ID offices and because their birth certificate and marriage license have a different spelling of the last name they are refused the ID. The person is 85 years old, has voted for 55 years but now because of new laws can't. So the govt. could allow clerks at the ID offices to allow these folks to get their ID blah blah....but they don't -- they are refused.
