8 pages into this thread and I have not seen 1 single post that justifies the death penalty. Killing a citizen, no matter how heinous the crime, is something a civilized society should not do. It isn't about money, it isn't about being a deterrent, it isn't about "an eye for an eye", it isn't about "justice". All I see is a bunch of blather about demanding what is, in fact, merely revenge. That's just pitiful.
The justification is that they are disgusting wastes of oxygen that serve no purpose and can never be rehabilitated. executions need to be expedited.

Nope-justice. And the death penalty is very effective, especially if utilized in a reasonable time frame. Zero recidivism rate.
Like some other posters, you are seeking revenge but are trying to pretty it up by calling is justice. And true life in prison also has effectively the same recidivism rate. Please try to join the rest of the civilized world.
