Trump owns his hotels, in case you don’t realize Obama had to rent a house and I’m sure not a small average one, and it is real expensive there, the cost to house secret service, food, activities, fuel to get there and back, I’m sure even more when Michelle stayed behind after Obama left. Florida is a lot cheaper to visit then Hawaii.

Donating his salary was the shiny object to distract from his record-setting spending on personal travel - which he was a direct financial benificiary.

Trump’s donation of his salary paled in comparison to the incremental cost of flying / securing his trips to Florida or NJ to play golf, the majority of weekends, let alone the need for Secret Service to protect multiple Trump properties. All his children and their families received 24/7 Secret Service protection, at home and wherever they went.
Biden was far from a wealthy man most of his life. What wealth he has he earned after leaving office in January 2017. He and his wife had book deals and made bank on the speaker’s circuit.

What do you mean it’s never enough? The fact is Trump approached this as a businessman. The return of investment for that 400k was millions. He also knew that people that are not financially inclined would look at it as an act of philanthropy when in fact it was just an investment. It was a win-win for him.
