No amount of screaming and moaning by people employed by the energy sector will stop the eventual demise of fossil fuels.

The only variable is time.

For me, my requirements to switch to an electric car is to be able to go 300 miles in one charge at 75 MPH and to be able to recharge in 15 minutes.
350 miles, 10 minutes to 90% charge.

But even then, I don't buy new cars because I don't like car payments. At this point, we have no idea what the used EV market will look like.

My guess is they'll fall short of their goal and get 50% of their vehicles electric by 2035. Though that would still be a lot.

Electric components period including batteries can do as much damage to the environment as fossil fuel vehicles. We can't even efficiently recycle plastics and paper with only about 50% of collected recycleable being recycyled in many communities.

And who is going to provide and pay for the electricity en masse. They can't even keep electric going in California with heat or even the threat of fire.

It's onething to offer electrics but another to say it's the only way to go.

As is mine.

What I don't understand is the absolute elimination of internal combustion engines. A hybrid approach seems like it would bridge the gaps in technology as we progress to near 100% EV adoption while reducing fossil fuel consumption and providing a period of transition. And by hybrid, I mean essentially using a fuel-efficient ICE to act as a generator, not the primary source of motion.

I think replacing compact cars is doable. However, the larger trucks and SUVs will be a little more difficult.

The power grid question is a big one. I think at some point yes, but in 2021 it's not ready yet.

So I guess you run out of gas because you always forget to fill your tank?

An electric car has to be plugged in nearly every day I don't have to fill my tank every day.
