It’s time to move on. Blacks have it better now in America than in most of the world. Get on with life. I don’t think anyone cares much about the same old stories year after year. It’s getting boring.

Well, let's see. St. Patrick's Day is coming up. We'll celebrate the Irish then. Mardi Gras, we can celebrate French, Cajun and Creole. In May, there will be Cinco De Mayo, so we can celebrate Mexican then. Memorial Day and Labor Day...maybe we could celebrate EVERYONE, right? October, we have Columbus Day, so we celebrate Italian, and then Nov 1st is Dia de los Muertos, we can celebrate Mexican again, and then Thanksgiving, When we can celebrate white.
Point of all that being...we can celebrate a whole lot of cultures and people, INCLUDING Black History Month.
We are talking a whole month, doesn't that seem to be a bit of an overkill? ON the other hand, I could care less, I and others I am sure get tired of having it crammed down our throats relentlessly on TV.
Who was that? I'm a student of history, and that's a story I haven't heard told. History is full of young men and boys, who had little alternative than to serve on ships, because they had no skills and ships were hiring. But I've never heard anyone drugged and forced to serve as a shipmate.
I will give you a true example of the problem... some years ago I encountered a black man who stated that he was a proud black man. He announced that he was proud that his people faced amazing hardship and yet overcame them to become a strong people. Just to make a point, I stated in reply that I was a proud man of white European heritage. I stated that I was proud to be of a heritage that advanced technology and scientific findings to make life not only easier but make life longer through medical advancement.
I was told by the black man, and a few others, that I was a white supremacist. I said nothing against the black man's sense of pride. The double standard is a problem. If there were an Ethiopian-American Heritage Month there probably wouldn't be any problem. The problem is, we are a race-based country and that dynamic has been shown over the last 400 years to be unworkable.
Every race has its downside, but God forbid you say anything positive about European Americans (Whites)who are responsible for 95% of all advances in all fields.
So what? It's been over for 160 years, yet you still let it rule your lives. Get over it. It is NO LONGER RELEVANT. Romans had slaves too, as did the Egyptians, American Indians, Mayans, Japanese, Chinese, etc. Do those descendant of those slaves whine, complain and use it as an excuse for non accomplishment? NO.
Instead of spending so much time focusing on the distant past, get off your @ss and work on improving yourself. Or is that too hard?
I'm with you. History is taught in our schools. Why do we have to also dwell on a long ago past by dedicating whole month's to it? I don't want a black, white, Asian, Hispanic, etc. month based on their history in our country. It's just divisive and serves no purpose. This is one of the reasons that so many put their race/ethnicity above just being a plain ole American.

It seems that some, if not many or most, in the Black Community do not like America and do not embrace being American just like Michelle Obama.
Lots of people here undermining the "meaning" of Black History Month. That right there is the attitude that will keep our country divided.
