People who keep talking about "entry level jobs" don't seem to realize that since the 80s the US has been transformed from a production economy to a service economy...and services are largely low-wage employment. Those are not just "entry level" jobs anymore; they are what the employment picture of the United States is.

That was done deliberately. I recall in the 80s financial pundits like Lou Dobbs made a big deal about the intention to move the US away from production to information and services.
