In a few short years we've gone from "should players be allowed to kneel during the anthem?" to "kneel during the anthem or you're off the team". Now that's progress!
The coach attacked her because she wouldn't take a knee to protest America, harassed and berated her and finally benched a player that appears to be a rising star.
If she chooses to come back, it is her right.
She should have never been mistreated in the first place.
Why do leftists always feel so inclined to attack the victim?
But if she quit the team why does she want back with the same coach? Something doesn't add up if she quit and wasn't thrown off the team.

The ironic thing is some four years ago we had a president that wanted pro athletes thrown out for kneeling. Think about that. I find forced kneeling and forced standing against what our founding fathers wanted. They wanted individual freedom. Neither ask that. Now I know a lot of people didn't like it, but for many years I've heard people cat-call, cheer the high note, sit (and not have a disability preventing it,) not take off their hats or not address the anthem itself and get nothing. If you're not gonna start something with the spectator, don't single out the athletes.

She realizes she's blown it.
She wants a soccer career, and was good at it, and decided to make voicing her political views repeatedly in an argumentative way to her teammates. And now she's realized what her lack of social grace and team spirit has caused her.

It's in here.
She quit the team; she wasn't kicked off. She was yelled at, though, for being difficult.
Others didn't kneel and apparently nothing happened to them that was averse. This article mentions other team players before the kneeling incident coming to him with divisive private texts.

Prohibited from protesting while at work/school is not the same as required to protest while at work/school.
When I was a dues-paying union member, I had to file paperwork with the union to keep my dues from being used to fund political campaigns and causes contrary to my values.
At the same time, my employer had rules about advocating for political causes in the shop and on company time.
Our soccer player exercised her option to not participate in a political protest and for this she was punished by her bag of **** coach.
