I’ve been saying this for ages. All these welfare, food stamp, section 8 people need to be made to get off their arses to earn their dole. Put them to work cleaning up the roadways, put them on the road construction crews, parks department, whatever the case may be. Why are we giving people money for sitting on their butts and popping out more welfare babies all day? If they find the work too difficult than they will be motivated to find better work themselves.

Of course, it will never happen. That would be racist because the argument is it would adversely effect POC. Even thought there are plenty of white trailer trash type people that would have to get to work to earn their dole too.

There is plenty of actual work they can do. Road construction, sidewalk construction, roadside trash clean up, waterway clean up, sewage treatment, etc.

Would you want any of those individuals working for you or attempting to build anything you might use?

We have created generational bums with no education, no skills, no initiative, and no work ethic.

As long as there are federal handouts encouraging people not to work, we will be plagued by a large, permanently dependent segment of the population.

I like the idea but in practice probably not so good. There are a lot of bad workers out there. Didn't one janitor unplug the refrigerator containing vaccine doses? Have you ever seen an employee who was given nothing to do because it takes more time and effort to watch over him and fix his mistakes than to just have someone else do it?

Maybe some of these people are unemployed because they keep messing up. They can even hurt other people or themselves doing construction if they do stupid things.

All you're doing there is making those schemes more expensive with no benefit. Get rid of every last one of them. Welfare should be funded voluntarily with private money

Explain the specifics of how you'd make that happen.

Not a bad idea. In 1657 Virginia required all tithable males (those over 16 whether free or slave) to work on the roads when ordered. Those who shirked their duty were fined - such as Col. Hill of the militia in 1676. That wasn't enough, so in 1690 (Lt.) Governor ordered that the justices who did not enforce this were themselves to be fined.

But zipping to more recent history, Virginia started to require work for benefits under Gov. Robb (D) and the welfare reform bill passed in the Clinton years required work and a limit on the number of years of benefits.

Of course, many on welfare can't work: children, the elderly, the disabled. Others don't know how to work or are simply too sick, overweight or needing medical care. But perhaps its not a bad idea to go back to the New Deal and start having conservation corps again.

No thanks. JTPA otherwise know as the job training partnership act was around when I was in college. I got $3.35 per hour as a college work study hire and the JTPA guys got $8.00 per hour. They were lazy and showed up late or missed work a lot. I never want to work with some one who doesn't want to work. I also think any program like that is going to be rife with graft and coruption.
