There are other ways to die. People who are fat comprise 78% of those hospitalized. Hospitals are full, overwhelmed etc. Because of this, people had their medical procedures halted and postponed--myself included. Some of those people didn't get screened for cancer. Some of them didn't have tumors removed until months later (I know someone who was in this predicament. It was surreal.). Had all those people not been fat, they may have avoided the hospital, and thus opened up spaces for people to be treated. Therefore, we have a public health and ethical mandate to make them diet and exercise. To keep the rest of us safe. It's an ugly argument, isn't it? But it's your argument, not mine.

If you stop micro-focusing on Covid, and apply your argumentation to other things, it doesn't hold up. The vaccine gives people a very high level of protection from death. Anyone can take it. It's not 100% but it needs to be enough. For NO OTHER condition, communicable or not, do we apply such an unrealistic expectation of safety, or place the burden on others to provide 100% safety.

Most of you are already doing whatever you damn please anyway, so carry on.
We suffered through enough threads urging us to mask up at the beginning of all this on the promise it would be temporary - I think we very much need some pushing to END this as well.

Since when is the desire to "do whatever we damn please" NOT an admirable goal?

BINGO!

Sometimes the statists accidentally reveal their ridiculous logic.

America was FOUNDED on the idea of individual liberty and doing what WE want, not what the rulers believe is the "common good."

It's why people swim across oceans on balsa wood rafts to get here.

Some of the posters here must think we are Canada, or Sweden, or something lame like that!

Yikes!

Good point. The pendulum has swung too far, and for too long, in the direction of safetyism. We need some pushback in the direction of freedom to balance things out. The current public health crowd acts as if THEY give us our rights. They don't. Our freedom isn't theirs to take, or to give. Of course, legally, they can take our freedom. But legally, we can fire them, vote them out, and take our freedom back. That's how free societies work. Now that the vaccine is here, enough. They should not move the goal post one inch further.

So well said.

I swear many of the women here have more balls (figuratively) than a lot of the men.

Yes, but with a couple exceptions - masks on planes, public transit, and indoor theaters. Also need to keep the Canadian border closed until they figure out to vaccinate their population.

Utter nonsense.

One question: Why?

There's nothing remarkable about this bug. It's not that deadly. It's not debilitating. It's not much worse overall than the flu, and now it's becoming endemic, so the damage will continue to drop.

Please justify your suggestions, citing whatever legal or historical support you can find for them.

The general reaction and response to this bug is absolutely insane, at this point. Initially, we didn't know what we were dealing with. Now, we do. Why are you still allowing the government to push you around? Stop, already! Sheesh!

Someone needs to point out that for the vast majority of people promoting the authoritarian dictates, it's about exercising power. They feel GOOD when they get to chastise someone for not doing as they're told. It's not about safety, or health or any of that. They say so, but it's not. It's about being little dictators. Do as you're told, peasant scum. That's what it's about. Make no mistake.

ETA: These are the same people who will be turning their neighbors in to the authorities for various reasons soon.
