The Making of the Mother of All Economic Booms
Quote:
As I watched Powell give his speech yesterday, I had to keep pinching myself to check that I wasn’t dreaming. The technocrats who’ve run the world economy since the Volcker Coup finally seemed to get it. Could this really be happening? Could they really have kicked the old habits of mind and embraced the New Empiricism? Evidently, they could. In what follows, I will give a short account of the intellectual and political economy revolutions unfolding before our very eyes. I will argue that we are not only at an inflection point in the modern history of the world economy. We may, in fact, be at the turning point of the secular cycle. The present revolutions in US political economy, I will argue, constitute nothing less than a final break with neoliberalism.

[...]

Such were the makings of the perfect storm. With fiscal policy not only revived but virtually on steroids and with monetary policy accommodative for the foreseeable future, we’re now looking at the greatest economic boom in living memory. The Fed now reckons that the US economy will grow at 6.5 percent in 2021. Goldman is more bullish. The 38th floor at 200 West believes that the US economy will grow at 8 percent instead. The strategists are probably closer to the mark.

Divider In Chief

What about the explosion of institutional racism against white people? That is a Biden "achievement".

A majority of investors and business owners have faith in Biden's economic boom, new UBS survey finds
Quote:
The Biden boom is in full swing and people like what they see.

Investors and business owners around the world are largely optimistic that the Biden administration's economic policies will fuel a robust recovery and leave them on better footing, according to a recent UBS survey. Some 64% of respondents view the administration as having a positive impact on the global economy. Six in 10 believe the White House's policies will support global markets.

Roughly 57% of investors and business owners said the Biden administration has benefitted their personal finances, and 54% of business owners said the policies benefitted their companies.

Welcome to Joe Biden’s Boom Economy
Quote:
Welcome to the Biden boom. While the first quarter of 2021 is history, the data are still coming in. “Forecasts” of real economic growth, based on partial data, now run in the 7% to 8% range. More important, there is a good chance the stellar first quarter won’t be a flash in the pan. The Wall Street Journal’s recent poll of economists registered an average forecast of 6.4% growth over the four quarters of 2021.

If that happens, it will mark the fastest four-quarter growth spurt since 1984. The 1983-84 boom, which came after a deep recession, led to Ronald Reagan’s declaration of “morning in America”—and his smashing 1984 electoral victory. Like the Reagan boom and the Clinton boom, the Biden boom won’t be due entirely to the policies of the president. But they are sure helping.

Biden's break from neoliberalism to invest in the middle class could create 'the mother of all economic booms' — an economic commentator explains why
Quote:
On this week's episode of "Pitchfork Economics," Nick Hanauer and David Goldstein talk with Anusar Farooqui, who writes probing analytic essays about economic policy on Substack under the pseudonym Policy Tensor.

Farooqui researches and thinks deeply about some of the most complex systems shaping our world today, and he's not afraid to take big swings on bold predictions. One such prediction in a recent essay, "The Making of the Mother of All Economic Booms," caught Hanauer's attention

In the piece, Hanauer says, Farooqui "argues that the Biden administration is making a really profound break with the last 45 years of neoliberalism, and that that break is going to create probably the biggest economic boom in collective memory, probably since the '60s."
