Let's not get carried away, there are plenty of places virtually violent crime free, that haven't changed at all, they just aren't in the large cities.
80% of the population lives in metro areas. More people means more good, bad and ugly and whack jobs.
While this is violating the constitution, urban liberals approve of this happening in their cities. It's only liberal sanctuaries where the government is able to enforce this.
Statistically, Stop and Frisk was proven to be a total failure.
Locking up thousands of urban youth for petty weed crimes is not a success.
And this article alludes to that as well, which doesn't make sense to me. The first year, it got 633 illegal firearms off the street, the next 600, and the last was 400. The fact that each year the number of illegal firearms taken reduced....seems like it was working to me. And think about that...1633 illegal firearms confiscated, how can this be considered a failure ?
Well it was a fun experiment while it lasted but hey NYC how is that defunding the Police going?
Gun crimes are up in NYC and the Mayor is bringing in the ATF to work with and "deputize" Police officers so they will be able to work as Federal agents.
" The "federal agent privileges" offered to NYPD working within the ATF's gun-tracing team will include giving the NYPD the ability to operate in areas that local police may not typically have jurisdiction, according to John DeVito, special agent in charge of the ATF's New York Field Division.
Miller added that the NYPD officers working with the ATF won't "become federal agents," and will remain NYPD officers, but the federal privileges offered to them will include the power to investigate federal gun violations and potentially put together cases they can bring to federal court, instead of just sticking to local, municipal matters."
Sooo If I understand this the ATF and "deputized" NYCP will trace and track legal guns because how can they trace illegal ones that criminals use? Which means that law abiding gun owners will no doubt face tougher restrictions. Should we also be concerned that the Feds are taking over a states jurisdiction when it comes to guns and gun Rights of citizens?
Another issue, the elephant in the room that everyone is ignoring is that the uptick in gun violence is not so much about the gun but more about the criminal that is willingly pulling that trigger and spraying bullets. Why aren't the talking about removing the criminals from the streets?
Of course it is tragic when an innocent person loses their life over some gang land beef but the problem lies in those gang members and not so much the tools they use.
Of course removing illegally owned guns from the hands of criminals that would use them is a terrific concept but lets also remove the criminal.
If only the Mayor of NYC would work with ICE as closely as he wants to work with the ATF.
"but the federal privileges offered to them will include the power to investigate federal gun violations and potentially put together cases they can bring to federal court, instead of just sticking to local, municipal matters."
Considering NY has some of the TOUGHEST guns laws on the books, I don't see how this is gong to help 1 bit.
