Did you know what Juneteenth was before this year? (soldiers, racist, Obama)

I have to admit I never heard of the day until the news started reporting about Trumps rally scheduled on the same day. I don't remember this being taught in schools I went to school in Southern California 1974-1987.
"June 19, 1865, Gen. Gordon Granger arrived with Union soldiers in Galveston, Texas, and announced to enslaved Africans Americans that the Civil War had ended and they were free — more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation."
I had definitely heard of it and knew it was connected to freeing the slaves but didn't know the exact date and how significant it was before this year.
Nope, and I really don't care. This whole BLM crap with their honoring criminals, "protesting" by rioting, burning, and looting our towns and cities, and the vandalizing of historical sites doesn't earn them one iota of respect from me. MLK promoted a colorblind society and has my respect; BLM is just a racist, militant mob.

Beautifully Spoken! I hope the FAKE BLM goes ballistic and starts eating their own....how long until they turn on each other??...hopefully soon....
As I posted in another thread... I learned about Juneteenth when Obama and Bill Ayers used million$ in Annenberg Challenge grants to implement Juneteenth curriculum in Chicago's schools in the 1990s instead of using the money to improve academic outcomes for minorities. The kids still couldn't read or do math, but they were well-versed in identity politics.
Yes, I grew up in Texas and have known about it since I was a kid. However, I don’t recall it ever being an official holiday. I could be wrong though.
Yes, but I'm from Texas so it makes sense that I'd know about a local Texas holiday. I grew up with it being a thing.
