The fact that nearly half of all poll respondents claim to not know about Juneteenth confirms my observation that roughly half of the people who post in this forum haven’t a clue about what’s going on.

Or, it might be an indication that they actually read what the poll is asking: "Did you know what Juneteenth was before this year?" [emphasis mine]
Surely you've noticed that Juneteenth has gotten way, way more publicity this year than it ever has before. So it stands to reason that a lot of people wouldn't have heard about it; or, like me, they'd heard about it but had only the vaguest idea of what it was, before this year.

Nah. I tout this lack of knowledge on the significance of Juneteenth to general ignorance people have about our history and governance. I’ve observed there is a greater preponderance of this ignorance among those who post in this forum, which as I’ve noted, is demonstrated by the voting herein.
I'm an English professor, and Ralph Ellison has a novel called Juneteenth.
I will say that my calendar does not have it listed.
Google calendar doesn't have it listed... A Texas day isn't exactly a national thing... If they want to celebrate it, shouldn't they celebrate Dec. 6 instead?
Do you feel White people did African Americans a favor by bringing them to America?
Factually the answer is "yes". Obviously slavery was horrible, but their descendants are now some of the most privileged people on the planet as a result of the awful things they had to endure.
Terrible things can lead to good things, but it doesn't make those terrible things any better.
I have no problem with Valentines Day or St Patrick’s Day, so Juneteenth is at least as good a reason as those are to have a holiday. I find the name name awkward and sort of childish though.
Yes, but no one really cared when Obama was in office.
It was one of those “joke holidays” due to its lack of proper English.
I’m black, we literally don’t do anything for it. Ever.
The African Americans in the major cities in Texas have parades (and other events) on Juneteenth.
