Let me get this straight.

This warehouse worker knowingly took a job, knowing it wouldn't pay enough to let her pay rent... and she took it anyway?

And in two years she hasn't gotten a roommate or other such apartment-sharing arrangement?

And now you say "Amazon leaders" are the ones who are "pretty stupid"?

And then you have even more trouble finding a place to live because you have an eviction on your record.

Sweatshops? You really have no idea what a real sweatshop is.

Why do you say she should have kept "making Zero"? No one else has made that suggestion, just you.

Because the alternative here is not having a job. Which is better?

Actually, there’s many alternatives, like finding a job that pays her enough to live where she does, or find a cheaper place to live, or get a roommate/s, or move to an area that’s cheaper to live and get a job there, etc…

I think we are in a shift in how people look at employment and where they live. People both seem to be avoiding warehouse/fast food/retail jobs while also relocating out of places like NYC.

Amazon won't pay more, they are biding their time until fully automated warehouses are functioning. I am sure people working at Amazon see the slow creep of automation taking place in their warehouses.

I wonder what the job market will look like in 20-30 years?

Sure, I get it that $19 an hour is not even close to a livable wage in parts of New York, but that's not Amazon's fault. I'm not an elitist but the only ones that can help people like her, are the individuals themselves. Either move to a lower cost city/state, or get a higher paying job like something in tech that pays double or triple that amount.

So she wants to work in an Amazon warehouse doing an odd job and wants to live in Manhattan?

And where would the residents of Manhattan go live? Camden NJ I suppose?
