She went on to say a new flag should have 52 stars, with the new pair representing Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C.

She claimed both the U.S. territory in the Caribbean and the nation's capital city deserve statehood and that the supposed purity and innocence represented by the flag's white stripes is a fallacy.

"America is great," she wrote. "It is beautiful. Pure, it ain’t. It is broken and in pieces."

She suggested the stripes could be off-white and the stars the "colors of ALL of us — your skin tone and mine."

I say, there's nothing wrong with our flag AS IS!

She has served us well for almost 250 years

Quote:
  • Between 1777 and 1960 Congress passed several acts that changed the shape, design and arrangement of the flag and allowed stars and stripes to be added to reflect the admission of each new state.
  • Today the flag consists of 13 horizontal stripes, seven red alternating with six white. The stripes represent the original 13 Colonies and the stars represent the 50 states of the Union. The colors of the flag are symbolic as well; red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.

Long may she wave!

Just, no. It's a symbol of the nation, not some extremist groups.

Macy Grey? Didn't she have a hit song like 30 years ago? Yeah lets listen to her, a washed up "artist". I like the flag just the way it is and so do millions of immigrants that see it as a symbol of freedom and hope.

Unbelievable. The leftists have actually convinced the brainwashed half of America that this is a horrible, racist country. They honestly now believe it, and now when the Marxists destroy it totally, they’ll go along with it.

I am a conservative and used to love the 4th of July, but the USA as it exists today is NOT the same country it was even a dozen years ago.

Maybe it is time for a new flag that is as shredded as the philosophy it was founded upon (with the exception of slavery which should have been abolished from the start) and the values that most of its citizens shared until fairly recently . . .

or maybe it is time for those of us in the so-called "flyover states" who still have those moral and ethical values to secede and take the "Stars and Stripes" with us, and leave some kind of Rainbow Flag, with black and brown stripes added, to the states that remain.

P.S. And, no, I am NOT a Trump supporter! I just believe in EQUALITY for all and no special treatment for anyone.

Not sure I care one way or other what this or any othr singer or actor have to say on the subject. That said, I disagree - the flag should stay as is. Yes, if Puerto Rico and/or D.C. gain statehood then it should be altered to the extent of adding stars, but that's it. I don't think the flag is divisive. It seems like people are spending more time and effort identifying and railing against symbols and ancillary pieces of culture rather than actually trying to unify us.

Thousands, if not millions, of people, died for that flag, as symbol of their country, symbol of their faith, livelihood, families, Motherland.

SHAME

Haters gotta hate. Even if the flag was replaced, there would be another fake indignity to complain about.

Give 'em an inch and they take a mile. The left will never stop with extremism until normal people say "no" for a change.

Leave the flag alone. It's sacred.
