If you are raising individuals who you fear are subject to the feelings of a Professor and aren't able to weed out and source information on their own -- that person probably shouldn't be at a university.

I went to Catholic school for all of my pre-college years. If your theories were accurate I'd be a full fledged Nun by now or at least a devout Catholic.

I tried and tried and nope.
It's not about being subject to the feelings of a professor. It's whether one can dissent without repercussions. Sure, some people are fearless, and have lots of money, so they can do what they want. Most kids at college can't afford to risk a bad grade, their reputation, or their future careers if someone plasters all over the internet that they are a 'racist' because they took a conservative position in a poli-sci class. The accusations that get thrown around can seriously damage a person: racist, transphobic, misogynist, white supremacist. That's the cost of dissent these days. Back in the day I remember when students were encouraged to take opposing views in an argument, simply as an exercise in critical thinking. Now it is very clear, some views are heresy.

I enjoy friendly debate. I've noticed that in recent years people don't even like intellectual exploration and debate. They get immediately triggered, jump to conclusions, get angry...The universities are where this is starting, and it is fanning out in to general culture. It's not a good thing.

In colleges, such conformity isn't a good thing. How can we make sure a diversity of ideological voices are heard, without fear of retribution? It's a real issue.
This is true. The lack of diversity comes from fear of retribution.

These days students won't contradict the professor for fear of bad grades, professors won't contradict the college's politically correct stance for fear of disciplinary actions from the administration, and the administration won't contradict the liberal ideologies for fear of lawsuits and media attack, resulting in loss of funding.

If you use a non PC term, the instructor is required by the administration to correct you. If there was no correction, an offended fellow student can file a grievance against the instructor.

It has been awhile since I was in college, but I always wrote my term papers with a far left slant which certainly helped my grades. I realized this my first semester at college I was in a political science class and the professor was being so vile and mean to someone with a conservative viewpoint. I quickly learned that if I wanted to be viewed positively I would have to write accordingly.

I was an undergrad back in the late 80s/early 90s. Anything could be discussed back then. I had an excellent liberal arts education where I learned how to be a free thinker. I never felt like I had to self-censor.

Contrast that to grad school back in 2012. People were corrected if they used a 'wrong' term. One time, the term was 'illegal alien' and they were made to say 'undocumented person' except technically, people have often have documents, sometimes faked...there's a whole argument to be made. The point was, a person couldn't complete a sentence without the professor interrupting and making them use specific words. No debate, just force, and the original point they were making was lost.

I recall wanting to debate the terminology, but ended up staying silent because the unspoken assumption was the person who used the 'wrong' term was a racist. I didn't want to be thought of as racist. That trend has only gotten worse. In hindsight, I wish I had spoken up in favor of free speech because I think we are far worse now. It's like an ideological monoculture.
I can't give you more rep so I'll just quote this post. They actually thought prople how to question everything at some point in the past? Classical liberals. Now it's "Do as I say. Believe what i tell you or shut up."

2024 can't come soon enough!!!!
So DeSantis is invoking the Thought Police? He wants to know what all the students are thinking, and if they aren't thinking the way he wants them to, then what? The school loses funding?

What happened to less intrusive government, Republicans? Talk about 1984!

It won't be DeSantis backed by-the-wealthy-fleeing-socialism Latin exiles, it'll be Gregg Abbott who thinks he can duplicate GW Bush's success, going from the Governor's Mansion in Austin to the White House.

DeSantis doesn't stand a chance. But let him run and make a fool out of himself. I love a good laugh!

Just curious - How long has it been since you graduated from college?

Thanks! That's so true. I came from the 'Question Everything' and 'Question Authority' mindset. Also I was taught to be skeptical of corporate corruption. What happened to that?

Any proof of this statement? Can you give us some examples of people who have been expelled because they said there are only two genders?

A lot of folks on this thread claiming "in colleges today....blah, blah, blah". And I'll wager most of you haven't been to a college in recent years, if ever, and are just parroting what you heard from Tucker Carlson. If you can't back up your claims with actual evidence, maybe YOU need to go back to school.
