Amid a West Coast heat wave that includes triple-digit temperatures, California’s power grid operators have called on residents to not use as much electricity so as to put less strain on the state’s beleaguered grid.
In the past week, the California Independent System Operator (ISO) told residents several times to voluntarily conserve energy, including asking them on social media to stop charging their electric vehicles (EVs) during peak usage times. The operator also warned users to “[avoid] use of large appliances and turning off extra lights.”
…
It comes as the federal government and certain state governments—including California’s—have pushed to convert their respective fleets to electric vehicles. President Joe Biden, who was seen in May in a photo-op driving an electric version of the Ford 150, earlier this year issued an executive order and promised some $174 billion into the electric vehicles market.
And California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, last fall announced he would set 2035 as a target date for ending the sale of petroleum-powered vehicles in the state.
…
However, amid the push, critics have suggested that if there are too many electric vehicles in use, it could potentially put a strain on state power grids and utilities.
Do you think they thought this through? What’s scary is that they probably did think this through.
Help me understand how this is different than when Colorado asks us not to fill our ICE vehicles with gas during the day on ozone pollution alert days.

It's different because the left is too stupid to understand that they are trying to convert ALL motor vehicles over to a fuel source that is already stressed and in short supply at times, and one that will only continue to be in short supply because those same lefties are shutting down power plants and replacing them with technology that cannot even come close to supplying the same amount of power... which was already not enough.
Isn't that smart? About as smart as a runner deciding he is going to win the marathon by putting horse hobbles around his ankles. Not only is his expectation of winning too high, he also goes out of his way to make it impossible to continue the race at all. Very bright.
On the other hand, not to fill our ICE vehicles with gas during the day on ozone pollution alert days has nothing to do with supply shortage.
If it’s only one resident, it’s not a big deal. I’m jealous of this resident who has more than one electric vehicle.
Silly reply. Typically flippant when leftists are shown how insane their policies are.
THE POINT is if the grid lacks the capacity for one guy to charge his car, how are they going to do it with thousands? Millions? When also passing fossil fuel restrictions which imperil the production they have now?
Democrats are dangerous.
The fact is also that the amount of construction, manufacturing, and heavy equipment use emissions that will be generated if they DID upgrade the grid to necessary capacity, will exceed the GGE savings realized for probably 100 years.

But you can still fill up your tank and get somewhere if needed.
It’s a supply issue:

Hilarious. California's leftists and enviro-whackos have been pounding their microphones for years, trying to get us to buy scads of electric cars. And now that people are starting to buy them, Calif can't supply enough electricity to charge them.
Oops.
And only a small fraction of drivers have them so far (Electric or plug-in hybrid). Do the politicians intend to triple (or more) the capacity of the state's electrical grid, by the time that, say, half the population buys these cars?
How many more oil-fired, coal-fired, and/or nuclear power plants do they intend to build between now and then? And how many thousands of miles of additional high-tension power lines and towers do they intend to string across the state?
And in whose back yards do they intend to build these power plants, high-tension lines, and just maybe, thousands of giant windmills that don't work when the wind isn't blowing very hard?
But you can still fill up your tank and get somewhere if needed.

While I agree that building more supply of electricity is the right solution, a request to limit power usage is simply a request. It’s also not inconvenient since most EV owners charge at night anyway.
