The Democrats raged on an on during debate of the constitutional carry bill in Texas.

It passed and now 15 days in, no rise in gun violence. Actually a sharp decline.

No surprise

As of June 16, 2021, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota (residents only; concealed carry only), Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee (handguns only), Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming do not require a permit to carry a gun.

Crook know it's much more likely that a few people in the crowd where they were going to assault someone, grab a woman's purse etc., probably have a gun.

So they decide not to assault or grab a purse.

Presto, fewer crimes committed. Without a shot being fired.

Who would have guessed?

There have been three mass shootings in Texas this month.

Just saying. I don't get my rights from political edicts or fictitious parchments anyway.

California hasn't had a mass shooting since August 28th in San Diego (Mission Beach).

People who have common sense understand that gun control in the US is impossible. The US isn’t New Zealand.

There could be 500 million guns or more in private hands. Nobody knows the true number.

So the only way to limit gun violence in the US is if every single able-bodied non-crazy person carried a gun and knew how to use it.

That is the only way.

Eh...

...we’re only days in. That’s not a large enough sample to declare victory for constitutional carry.

I’m going to do it a time or three just because I’d like to flex my now-legal ability to do what should be legal anyway.

But I can’t delude myself into thinking that I have the training or nerves to overcome the adrenaline dump if “it” hits the fan. If I draw and raise the stakes to life and death, I don’t have the skills to really call that bluff, and that’s why I’ve never sought to carry.

Perhaps you should tour California before you condemn it so harshly. It produced a libertarian me from the Bay Area, and if you get up in the far northern part, you get into State of Jefferson territory.

I say this not just because I’m a Californian by birth and proud of it, whatever its shortcomings, I also say this as a trucker who’s been through 45 of the lower 48. Analogous for me would be NY State, a place I thought was homogeneously blue and crappy. Surprise surprise, when I went to Rochester and much of central/western NY, it was not at all what I had imagined, and is quite nice if you aren’t in the downtowns of the central cities like Syracuse, Roc, or Buffalo.
