No tears here. At 98 Robert Joseph Dole had lived a rich, full life and then some. He was a deeply devoted Christian and his rest is well earned. I am sure he will hear, "well done my good and faithful son" when he arrives at Heaven's Gate.
Good man, although disagreed with much of his platform. His party, and country, are totally different than when he left public service! I'll leave it at that!
Saw a clip earlier today of Dole being interviewed by David Letterman. He really did have a great sense of humour. And a deadpan delivery with perfection timing.
My friend was on his staff in the 1980s at the Capitol when he was Senate Majority Leader. She used to giggle to herself watching so many people extend their hand to him, forgetting about his disabled right arm, and then awkwardly switching to their own lefts.
Yes, he was a Disabled American Veteran. Rest in peace, and thank you for all your service.
I wrote to this friend last night and said, "Hey, I see your old boss died". She told me he wrote her a recommendation for a position four years ago--at the age of 94. Remembered her working for him in the 80s.
