What would be more interesting is a general regression model with county data on deaths, density, vaccination, masking, partisanship, income inequality and any other factors that might impact COVID, and then see what factors appear most significant. But I don't have that kind of time.
Also to see more in depth county and state breakdowns in deaths over the last six months or so as vaccines became readily available. New York and New Jersey for example had the highest death rates early on in the pandemic and as a result still rank fairly high in overall death rates, but have been among the lowest for the past year.
Covid is seasonal and it doesn’t look the vaccines work very well if at in terms of Covid cases. Covid has hit states and countries with high vax rates as hard as states and countries with low vax rates, sometimes the rates are even higher in higher vaxxed countries. Breakthrough causes are anything but rare.
