when Jeff McDonald said back in the sixties that his family was killed by a group of home invaders chanting: "Acid is groovy! Kill the pigs!" I knew in a second he was guilty as sin. Hippies did not talk that way (although McDonald probably did not know that) and stoned acid head could get together to push a car out of a snow bank much less kill a whole family.
Face forward to Jussie Smolett. As soon as I heard what he quoted his supposed 'attackers' saying, I knew he was lying. Muggers, even the white ones, don't talk like that.
Anyone who heard Jussie's explanation and believed he was truthful was in serious self-delusion.
(1) A person is guilty of perjury in the first degree if in any official proceeding he or she makes a materially false statement which he or she knows to be false under an oath required or authorized by law.
(2) Knowledge of the materiality of the statement is not an element of this crime, and the actor's mistaken belief that his or her statement was not material is not a defense to a prosecution under this section.
(3) Perjury in the first degree is a class B felony.
