Vladimir (via zoom): Hey, Poopy Pants, we just detonated several nuclear missiles in our former territories of eastern Europe. What are you going to do about it?

Poopy: I used to be a trucker! And a cowboy's helper's helper... My butt's been wiped! Or has it?

Secret Service Agent: Jesus, I was wondering what smelled so bad in here.

Vladimir (via zoom): (laughs hysterically) Yes, your butt certainly HAS been wiped. In more ways than you can imagine, Babushka.

I think that this announcement is make NATO back away. It is a scare tactic.

But I don't agree that there will be no invasion of Ukraine, they have already done it. They will take a huge slice of Ukraine if they are not stopped. Probably the ultimate goal is to seize the entire Black Sea coast eventually, linking up with Moldova and making Ukraine a landlocked rump state like Belarus.

They need to act on this before Ukraine joins NATO, so the plan is in the works.

Why?
Is Russia threatening Finland with takeover too?

( Besides, Finland IS part of the West, ( as much as Sweden that is not part of NATO, so may be it needs to "strengthen its ties with the West" too, since Sweden comes across as such an "Eastern" country"?)
And yes, while not making any hostile moves towards Russia, Finland is getting all it needs from there economy wise.

Then...any type of war can be justified. Haven't we had enough of these "stories" told to us over the years to justify war ?

People have got to start reading news from sources outside of the US to get the full story of what is going on globally from all sides.

The question is - why exactly?
The next question is why exactly was Russia not admitted in NATO after it put the sabers down and got rid of the communist ideology?

Kind of dumb to seek vengeance when you can't back it up.

The U.S. couldn't defeat the Taliban, what makes the U.S. Gov think it can take on Russia?
It's laughably absurd.

Pretty much.

( Although I would say that the whole "Ukrainian affair" is the US seeking vengeance after the plans towards Russia didn't quite work out back in the 90ies.

So the US decided to take yet another swipe at Russia down the road.)

It's laughably absurd.

But you can keep on trying, can't you?
( Although the consequences of course can be potentially devastating for everyone involved.)

Finland is eagerly watching Russian military expansion in the Arctic region, and as well as buying 64 F-35's has indicated that it might well join NATO, with Sweden also considering it's options.

A new arms race and more sanctions will just cause Russia to repeat the same mistakes as in the 80's, when the Soviet Union all but bankrupted it's self when it became embroiled in an arms race with the US under the Reagan administration.

Before Finland’s response, Putin suggested in a speech to foreign diplomats on 2 December in Moscow, that there be a deal where NATO would commit itself not to accept new Eastern members. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov repeated the proposal in a meeting with his American counterpart Antony Blinken.

...and I see the response, following your link.

"For those already in favour of NATO membership, the Russian initiative came as confirmation that the time to apply is now. However, Finnish Defence Minister Antti Kaikkonen cooled the debate in a Helsingin Sanomat interview, saying that there are no preparations or plans to send an application.
Currently, 50% of Finns oppose NATO membership while 25% support it, though numbers in favour of membership have slightly increased recently."
