Lol. They’re not prioritizing the roads because they’re incompetent. Are you saying there’s a bike lane on that bridge and others that’ll keep folks from driving on it/them?

Obviously, which is why they should’ve fixed it to begin with.

Yeah, but that's their thinking. They have said that they want less cars because of climate change.

Poor thinking resulted in the collapse due to incompetence. Just because someone wants something doesn’t mean they’re going to get it.

*The United States Senate approves a $1.2 trillion bill to improve and modernize the nation's aging infrastructure through a bipartisan 69-to-230 vote. A bill that represents a historic investment in infrastructure and is due to the Biden administration's commitment to the country and belief in bipartisanship. A bill which is overwhelmingly popular among Americans and is a huge win for the nation and ALL Americans.

*A bridge that is a major throughway for Pittsburgh neighborhood connectivity and commuter and commercial traffic collapses.

*A thread full of conniving conspiracy, deliberate distraction and deceitful dung immediately arrives and thrives. An alternative reality for those who will argue and magnify fiction seeded and grown for their consumption in the universe of grievance.

There is a rot & rust that has affected a large mass of people in this country, and I am not speaking of infrastructure deterioration. There once was something called truth, based on facts. Now, anyone can make up whatever they want, put it out there and certain people will fall for it and defend it and angrily amplify whatever baseless accusation and smear suits their agenda... even while staring in the face of incontrovertible truth.

Truth: The infrastructure legislation---signed into law 9 weeks ago--- will rebuild crumbling roads, and bridges, replace lead pipes, and help provide high-speed internet access to most American families. You know change people’s lives for the better. ALL people, no matter what their political persuasion or "color of state in which they reside". It will create good-paying union jobs, support domestic manufacturing and supply chains, and keep us competitive here and now in the 21st C. This investment in America and Americans very likely will prevent the type of disruption and disaster that occurred in Pittsburgh from happening somewhere else in the future.

Fact: As for bridges---- which is the topic of this thread due to the complete collapse of one at an intersection of a major artery in my city of Pittsburgh --- The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has earmarked $27 billion to repair bridges across the country, and Pennsylvania has been allocated $1.6 Billion over 5 years.

This thread is an example of the rust and rot that threatens these United States of America. Those who are immune to facts and bereft of decency have again found a topic to co-opt and exploit where they gleefully disseminate ludicrous lies, chaotic claptrap and twisty tales. Spreading deceit & sowing doubt, disseminating innuendo & propagating false comparisons are the hallmark of all movements whose goals are dissension, chaos & destabilization....deterioration that is as dangerous to a country and its citizens as a collapsing bridge.

This rust and rot is eating away at our country and threatens to collapse every area and aspect of our lives and civil society... and it looks and feels as scary as the reality of crushed busses and cars at the bottom of a ravine under slabs of broken concrete.

Pittsburgh will survive and build back another better bridge, but what we are watching and experiencing, yet again, in this latest bridge brouhaha on this forum, is an example that is highly illustrative of the overarching war on truth by deplorable people. When truth no longer matters everyone and everything is in jeopardy.

"Many bridges are eligible for federal matching funds"

THAT IS MY WHOLE POINT!!!!

They should NOT get fed money.

"In fact, if a bridge is part of the interstate system"

In FACT they are NOT!

I posted this before:

"States Own Interstate Highways — Not the Federal Government"

"The only exception is the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge, which is currently under construction and spans Interstate 95 and Interstate 495 over the Potomac River; but once the old bridge is replaced, that ownership will be reverted to the states of Maryland, and Virginia — as well as the District of Columbia — all of which operate the bridge."

Only YOU are responsible for YOUR roads and bridges.

WHY HAVEN'T THEY?

Your STATE has a Transportation Dept that IS responsible. MONEY HAS been allocated for the MAINTENANCE of the roads and bridges.

"Michigan’s Transportation Budget
Michigan’s Transportation budget supports:
oState and local road and bridge programs
•Construction and preservation of the state trunkline highway system
•Funding for local road systems (83 road commissions and 531 cities and
villages)"

"FY 2019-20 Transportation Budget

Gross Appropriations$5,021,408,000Total spending authority from all revenue sources

YOU should ask YOUR representatives, "what HAPPENED to the MONEY?

It is NOT the responsibility for OTHER STATES taxpayer to PAY to fix YOUR bridges AND Roads.

fact check: misleading. only a small minority portion of the bill will actually fund actual 'infrastructure' work, unless diversity and equity programs - whatever that is - are now classified as infrastructure. read the bill/law - it is online and well dissected.

fact check: misleading. Exactly $0 of this allocation was earmarked for this bridge, or barely any others in allegheny county PA Source: Trib live/post gazette 1/29/2022 That this might change now, is irrelevant. The bridge was coming down this round of funding.

fact check: hyperbole. There are enough photos of the scene and video to show that there are exactly zero crushed cars or buses nor are any under slabs of concrete so the reality referenced, does not exist. In fact, the bus that slid back down its slab (and was still running into mid morning) will be damaged more when the crane picks it up. not even Jamie Davis can save this one. The fact that there are dented cars at the bottom of the ravine that everyone exited from safely is reality enough without embellishment.

Over-all grade: Political narrative and not even good political narrative. C-

Might? Lol. You would need a time machine to get a bridge built that cheaply. It would cost a lot more than that to design the bridge, let alone construct it.

Yeah. They should have repaired the bridge years ago.

I know. I was being sarcastically facetious.
