Can somebody explain why do We need a 30 country NATO alliance with all the military power on earth and the world's top economies combine after the Soviet Union dissolved over 30 years ago? NATO was built to counter the Soviet Union with 16 countries and today the Soviet Union doesn't exist and NATO has 30 countries. Is this for the invasion of the aliens?

How is that not an aggression on Russia and the other countries not in the alliance?

Maybe because Russia is a mini-Soviet with nukes.

Because Russia has the most nukes in the world.

They don't need a military power, all they need is a button with the word "nuke" on it.

But in this case, what Putin want for Russia is Ukraine as geopolitical buffer. In other words, he want a stretch of land that a NATO army must cross BEFORE they can get to Russia. Putin can claim that it is about some Russians living in Ukraine that he must protect, but no one, not even Russians themselves, believes that reason. Nevertheless, Putin must give the world something other than 'geopolitical buffer' as reason.
Someone also mentioned it may have to do with trade/ports in the Black Sea

America don't need to be in it. If America do lose lives in that conflict, it will be sad because there is no reason to rescue anyone from being in Ukraine. Even the ones that are stuck in Ukraine. They chose to be there. It's their choice. Why butt in on the military for civilians there in Ukraine? Don't need to.

You guys are wrong because you are misinformed. Those new NATO members did not join there voluntarily and not because they were afraid of Russia, which did not threaten anyone and turned out to be weak at the time of the collapse of the USSR. Looks like you don't know that the US began to install its puppet government in those former allies of the USSR, who allegedly agreed to join NATO themselves. It was easy to make these countries the US allies after the collapse of the Soviet Union. No color revolution or the coup were needed for it. It was enough just to promise its new puppets a huge economic assistance, bribe them and give them money (of course, at interest) allegedly for the economic reforms and development. But in fact, a big chunk of these money were spent for war infrastructure of NATO, not for the economic development of a new NATO member. Western corporate media never reported about it.
All this false rhetoric about aggressive Russia, which was massively implanted in the brains of Western inhabitants, was aimed at moving closer to Russia's borders unhindered for allegedly deterring it. In fact, after the collapse of the USSR the main goal was to dismember Russia into separate republics in order to seize its rich natural resources and gain a huge territory for the market. This was and still is the goal of Western capitalists. Pay attention to how good Russia was for America when the drunkard Yeltsin was president of Russia. Western corporations exported its wealth from Russia for pennies. Clinton and Yeltsin hugged and laughed like best friends. But when Putin came in power and stopped this brazen plundering of his country, Russia immediately became bad and aggressive again.

This is simply a wrong comparison as it is nothing like the situation between Israel & Gaza (as Israel actually vacated Gaza voluntarily in a one sided fashion under Israeli PM Sharon). Putin simply wants to get Russia's status back as a world power and Ukraine is on his radar.

See Biden's corruption in Ukraine.

Imagine if China does the same thing on us and arms countries to be against us and builds up their military in Canada and Mexico, how would We react? Can you say WW 3.
No one knows the true reason why Putin is amassing 100k forces on the Ukraine border its all specualtion at this point.

I was just throwing out ideas why he might be considering it. The most likely is NATO expansion Ukraine has always been like a little sister to Russia so naturally Russia is very protective of it and any outside influence.
