Many of those places are where people's rights to carry are infringed.
But, seriously, there are no shortages of examples of citizens ending gunfights.

I dunno. How many that were arrested have been identified as licensed to carry the weapons?
Who thought adding more guns to society was a good thing? Not me.
They are a tool for killing. People will use tools to stop arguments and fights.
Who would have though letting violent criminals out of prison early, or refusing to lock them up in the first place, was a good thing? Who would have thought making heroes out of criminals while demonizing police, was a good thing? Who would think empowering rioters, looters and arsonists and making them out to be victims, was a good thing? Not me.
