Just the talk of tightening-up things with regards to high-capacity-magazines, and all other
ammo/firearm related items, spurs a massive wave of purchases of these items, totally negating
any effort to restrict and reduce their numbers.
How about everyone who owns or buys an assault type rifle be immediately enrolled in one of those well regulated militias?
If the owners of those 20 million weapons currently in the USA would use them for self defense and to prevent crime it would sure help the LEOs in my community.
Oh my God! keep your pants on! No one wants to do anything to the 2nd amendment.
Somewhere there's a law that says private individuals can't own a-bombs. All they have to do is amend it to say "a-bombs or assault rifles." 2nd amendment wouldn't even know it happened.
The 2nd could fall tomorrow and guns will still be very desired by many Americans.
Thinking, non-sheeplized Americans see that Helter-Skelter is enveloping the USA, while Fedgov and most Stategovs/Citygovs do little to nothing except make things worse.
1. the need for citizens to possess and use firearms;
2. the desire of states to form militias through mandatory service; and
3. the need of the federal government to call on the same states to support the standing army if needed.
The first may be abridged by local laws, e.g., if citizens vote to restrict gun laws.
The second was dropped during the 1960s with registration being the only requirement. Militias were supplanted by the National Guard during the start of the twentieth century because armies became mass, mechanized, and specialized.
The third is no longer relevant because of a large standing army and the presence of the National Guard.
Exactly ^^^^^
People on this forum writing about what the intent of the Framers was for the 2A are just making things up out of thin air. There is no evidence that this was so citizens could overthrow their government. The Framers told us exactly why 2A was written:
"A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state..."
Back in 1787 they didn't have a standing army, and didn't foresee ever having one. If the nation was invaded, they relied on armed local citizens, organized as militia, to rush to the defense of the country. And these weren't just armed mobs of people; they were "well-regulated". They have command structure and usually are only active when called out by the Governor.
So let's drop this nonsense that you have some God-given right to carry a high-powered, rapid-firing weapon with a large magazine shooting armor-piercing bullets without restrictions.
Why are people so defensive about assault guns? They are obviously a public danger. For school shootings, not your run of the mill mayhem. Every mass school shooting was with assault rifles. They are the weapon of choice 100% of the time.
"Well they'll use knives or slingshots or bows and arrows...." That's bull and everyone except very stupid people know it.
Get rid of assault guns and get rid of school shootings. Or don't and wait for the next one because as sure as #2 it's coming.
It's not mental health. Hardly anything is mental health.
"Every mass school shooting was with assault rifles."
"They are the weapon of choice 100% of the time"
This is an example why we CANNOT have honest discussions on issues.
Note you said "EVERY" and "100% of he time"
"FACT CHECK: Have Assault Weapons Been Used In ‘Hundreds’ Of School Shootings? 9:21 AM 09/21/2018 Brad Sylvester | Fact Check Editor
Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein claimed on Sept. 5 that assault weapons have been used in “hundreds” of school shootings.
Verdict: False
Assault weapons are not typically used in school shootings. The exact number of incidents depends upon how school shootings are defined, but a review by The Daily Caller News Foundation shows that rifles were used in up to 32 school shootings in recent decades. The majority of incidents involve handguns."
"One comprehensive study done by The Washington Post found that out of 221 school shootings since Columbine, 24 involved rifles."
"Data collected by Mother Jones that dates back to 1982 shows only 10 instances of rifles being used in a total of 18 school shootings.
An FBI report found that from 2000 to 2013 there were 39 cases of active shooter incidents at educational facilities (26 of which were at primary or secondary schools), and of these, eight involved any sort of rifle. FBI active shooter incident reports from 2014 through 2017 describe 13 active shooter incidents at schools, and five of these involved rifles.
A report by the Rockefeller Institute for Government, a New York-based think tank, shows that from 1966 to 2016 there were 94 school shootings and 32 involved a rifle.
A database from Stanford University shows that of 67 documented school shootings from 1966 to 2016, 24 involved some sort of rifle."
Two days ago now, we had another mass murder shotting and one again, high capacity magazines of 30 rounds of ammunition were used. Why in the world should 30 rounds clips be allowed. If you can not shoot your target with a using a five round clip (I'd compromise with 10), I can tell you who needs more time at the range. I've shot a gun with Boys Scouts numerous times and we either had single shot rifles or five round clips at best. I do not know why we are so adverse to banning 30 round magazines in this country.
Dang! I replaced all my 30 round clips with 40 round clips for my AK-47. And I recently got some 75 round drum clips too.
Ask all the Ukrainian citizens what size clip they prefer in their fight against the Russians. It’s you weak fools that don’t understand why our country has the 2nd Amendment.
