There is no way to do randomized controlled trials, because there is no way to control mask usage. The Danes tried, but people would not conform to their assigned mask usage.
Actually, there is. These are called CRTs = Cluster Randomized Trials.
Of course, you cannot control if each individual wears a mask but that's not the point. You will have far higher mask usage in one cluster vs the control cluster, then you measure if there was a benefit.
One such study was done in Bangladesh, it found no benefit for cloth or surgical masks (surgical masks showed a none-statistically significant benefit of 9%).
The actual study is a joke, there are no controls in that study- no demographic controls, no control population And the guy is a real nut job, did you read his study about how vaccines make you magnetic?

You're echoing Osterholm. The reason flu went into hiding during Covid was whatever phenomenon happened in 2009. Not masks or "social distancing" or whatever associated nonsense.
That's the last area of our society where people don't yet have the balls to not do it.
The CDC even admitted that cloth masks do nothing, but hospitals still hand them out because they are a captive audience and they have a very high liberal population governing them.
Most of the doctor's offices in my area though have dropped them.

Our doctor's office no longer requires masks, but some local businesses still do.
And N-95 type are not what was mandated. Just any old mask would do.
Is that a state thing or local? The medical places here are not going to stop mask mandates.
