This is my view as well. Pro-choice from a policy perspective, but have always known that Roe was on shaky ground from a legal reasoning perspective. Sadly, the politicians speechifying today on both sides are not acknowledging that and sound biting only with respect to policy.

Let's all come back in 2-3 years and compare figures regarding Medicaid expenditures, death from complications of illegal abortions and similar stats comparing those states that have now or will soon be banning or restricting abortion so tightly as to be an effective ban vs. those states that still provide access.

People are letting irrational emotions get the best of them.

Step back from your politics and think about this rationally.

1) There is nothing in the constitution regarding the right to an abortion.

2) The SCOTUS cannot make up new rights on its own.

3) The current SCOTUS corrected a bad ruling that even Ruth Bader Ginsburg stated was not a good one.

4) The SCOTUS did not ban abortions with this ruling.

5) The SCOTUS simply sent this back to states to decide, WHIS IS EXACTLY AS THE FOUNDING FATHERS DESIGNED THINGS TO BE.

6) The DEMOCRATIC process can now be used to decide this issue in each state.

7) The option of a constitutional amendment is still there. If you want the right to an abortion written into the constitution, simply get enough support for an amendment to be added.

All those on the left freaking out right now are screaming we should not follow the constitution and are against Democracy.

SC had 5000 abortions in 2020...not very many and mostly in the age group 20-29.
SC is going to go forward with a heartbeat law with exception for rape, incest, medical reasons

Totally agree. It's on the Dems for not making it law. We deserve what we get.

She didn't say that. It was her opinion that it was the wrong way to secure a woman's right to abortion.

...“I wish that would’ve been the first case. I think the Court would’ve better understood that this is about women’s choice,” Ginsburg said.

In response to a student question about what would happen if Roe were overturned now, Ginsburg said the effect would largely be restricted to poor women in anti-choice states. Many states would never outlaw abortion, and wealthier women will always be able to travel to those states, she pointed out.

“If you have the sophistication and the money, you’re going to have someplace in the United States where your choice can be exercised in a safe manner,” she said. “It would mean poor women have no choice. That doesn’t make sense as a policy.”..

So AntiAmerican Govenors in a good chunk of America are in the process of chopping away another freedom and we should be unemotional?

There are no words.

Women have ways to unburden themselves with unwanted "pregnancies." Legal and safe ways "early on" exist. Vacuum aspiration kits are sold online. During the 1980's women formed clubs in order to deal with those pesky late menses. They assisted other women safely. No one died. The menstrual extractions were often used to avoid cramps, and to make competing in sports a whole lot easier. I always said that if men had to run a watermelon down their shafts, they would think twice about telling women what to do with their bodies.

Birth control fails, and there is no reason to be burdened with a child for that. It isn't "Gods will" that she conceives. We have more than enough humans, but the powers that be want more bodies for their wars. No more Handmaid's tale. Women can opt out of motherhood. Not everyone wants to crank out babies. They are not selfish. An unfettered life is a joy to behold.

Even former justice Ruth Ginsberg acknowledged the Roe v Wade decision was wrong. In the decades since the Roe V Wade decision the US Legislature had the opportunity to either amend the Constitution or pass a federal law. Instead they relied upon a judicial decision as if it were law. Contrary to the hyperbole reporting by some in the news industry, this decision does not make abortion illegal in the USA. It puts the decision back in the hands of the individual state legislatures. When even the most liberal US Supreme Court Justice said the Roe v Wade ruling was wrong, how can you argue the case through a legal debate? Im in Louisiana. One law we do have that I’m firmly in agreement with is a safe haven law. This allows for mothers to bring their newborn babies to places like police, fire, and medical facilities to be dropped off without any fears. It’s a much better alternative to the toilet or dumpster.
