Just to level set, back in 2008 after Obama was elected, the gov. of Illinois was selling his Senate seat appointment to top level democrats.
Jesse Jackson Jr. and eventual Senate seatholder Roland Burris among others were in discussions with him.
Someone at the FBI leaked the investigation to the press and so it ended early with only enough evidence to charge Blagovich (Governor) who then went to jail.
That leak spared another 5-6 dems from Illinois from joining Blagovich in prison and creating a huge scandal right at the beginning of his presidency.
Just something to contemplate, well along with their track record with people like MLK among others...they're not immune from doing some shady things at political behest.
Somebody also informed CNN what was going down so they could record and broadcast it. And that's happened before.
Possibly collected, read, copied, and then the originals returned to Trump?
IF there is not a 2 tier justice system, then the presiding judge will throw out ALL the evidence collected because it was done so without any chan of custody, nor according to the warrant. Since there is no ways of telling what is what, it all has to go and there is well over 100 years of precedent.
But I preceded all of this with 'if', cuz that scenario does not exist.
So 'annonymous' sources have integrity now or just when they say things you want to hear.
I will wait until a credible news service picks up the story.

Jon Solomon is not an anonymous source. He's been way out in front on a lot of stories over the past 2-3 years. He is an actual journalist who does his homework instead of just reading lines fed to him by the DNC (or DJT) as most do nowadays.

Looking at the bright side, we've finally found a way to motivate liberals to defend law enforcement: sicc them on people they disagree with. Then, law enforcement can do no wrong in the liberal mind, such as it is.

It is not unusual for some wrong items to get swept up during a search. That is why the FBI has a process to go through everything that was taken and return the items taken in error.
A passport? Client/attorney privileged documents?
And those were just DJT saying it. This is confirmation. The DOJ has acknowledged it.
That's the way the warrant was written, if you read it. Anything in proximity to the classified material was fair game for seizure.

If they wanted some specific documents, then they take just that. The exception might be if the item they wanted was digitally stored. Then I could see taking an entire disk drive, or electronic storage device. I would not expect the FBI to be able to look thru the contents of a 5 TB disk drive. This time, the FBI just grabbed everything without caring what it was. They took Trump's passports for Christ's sake. This shows what little effort they put into narrowing their search.
This is a US President we are talking about. We cannot accept sloppy work, where they grab everything not nailed down, and look see what they have, like it's Christmas morning. They conducted this raid with no more thought to it, than if they were raiding a low level drug dealer.
They needed to have air tight information about what exactly Trump had that they needed to recover. They needed to have a very finely detailed warrant. The FBI need to have Trump's lawyer with them, to carefully examine their actions, to be sure they only removed exactly what they were looking for.
The FBI were sloppy, and reckless, and they ended up with egg on their face, and they harmed the reputation and integrity of the entire FBI. They look like a politicized and compromised government agency.
So the FBI went beyond the scope of the warrant? That's not terribly surprising, when you have a room full of boxes of documents and a fairly vague warrant.
What is important is that the FBI realized they had overstepped, and immediately acted to put it right. So if this is supposed to be some "evil FBI" narrative, sorry; it's not having the intended effect.
"Immediately?" They denied it. Only when Trump insisted did they get embarrassed and return things.
