We can expect more government intervention in personal decisions.

Quote:
A Florida appeals court decided Monday to uphold a lower court’s ruling that a pregnant 16-year-old had not shown she was “mature” enough to terminate her unwanted pregnancy, and must therefore give birth.

The teen, described as “parentless” in court documents, has been petitioning the state court system to let her get an abortion without the written consent of a parent or guardian, which is required for minors under a law signed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) two years ago.

But Frydrychowicz found that the teen did not establish “by clear and convincing evidence that she was sufficiently mature to decide whether to terminate her pregnancy,” court documents say. Florida’s First District Court of Appeals upheld the decision, with two judges on the panel concurring and one issuing a separate opinion concurring in part and dissenting in part.

In Florida, abortion is only permitted until the 15-week mark. (The American Civil Liberties Union is challenging the law, but at the moment it remains in effect.) The teen was 10 weeks pregnant when she first came before the court with her case worker and a guardian ad litem.

She's a minor, not 35.

Sad that the same left that cheers at killing human babies would throw someone in prison for life for killing an animal.

Too immature for abortion but mature enough for parenthood?

... the teen initially told the court that her legal guardian "was fine" with her decision to terminate her pregnancy. Under Florida law, she does not need to go through the judicial bypass process if her guardian fills out a form affirming consent to the abortion.

This girl could've had her guardian, who is a relative with whom she lives, fill the form out. End of story.

This girl also checked a box on a form and waived counsel so she represented herself.

This is setting up a challenge so that parent do not need to give permission for girls to have abortions. The whole story is weird. Like a set up. A pimps dream, bring as many 14 year olds in for an abortion then get them back on the street, easy peasy. No questions asked.

The judge is a woman. Her parents or guardian could have consented. They’re looking for a sympathetic plaintiff to challenge the law.

The linked article says court documents indicate she's "parentless."

She doesn't have to be a parent.

This is insanity.

It's not clear she has a guardian. She's "parentless". She has a guardian ad litem, which is someone appointed to advocate for her in court. She also has a caseworker.

The judge surmised she didn't put enough research into the abortion process (don't understand why she thought that, but ok) because she's distressed over the recent death of a friend.

So. Good. Let's make her continue the pregnancy and then give birth to a baby she may or may not relinquish.
